Northrop Grumman's Space Systems is seeking a motivated candidate that will fill the position of a Staff Level Spacecraft Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer. This senior position is focused especially on the early phases of a program, from proposal generation through preliminary design review. Candidates must be able to create a preliminary spacecraft design to meet a given set of customer requirements, taking into account the company's existing product portfolio. Candidates will have access to peers for consultation and must be able to give technical direction to junior supporting engineers.
GNC proposal support may involve any of the following tasks and skills:
•Designing, analyzing, and tuning spacecraft attitude and position control loops using time and frequency domain techniques
•Designing, analyzing, and tuning sequential filters (e.g. Kalman filters) for attitude determination and relative navigation
•Analyzing and testing the spacecraft GNC subsystem performance using simulations and other analytic tools
•Implementing GNC algorithms in flight software and support flight software qualification testing
•Performing analysis to support early design phase concept development including actuator sizing and placement, sensor selection and placement, and predicted performance assessments
•Developing simulation models for sensors (e.g. star tracker, rate gyro, accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer, sun sensors), actuators (e.g. reaction wheel, torque bar, thruster, CMG), system dynamics (e.g. rigid body, multi-body, orbit mechanics, flexible models), and the space environment (e.g. atmospheric, solar radiation pressure, third-body gravity, geopotential)
•Applying engineering principles, industry standards, company process, and knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control, and estimation theory to perform tasks to advanced program/project goals
•Documenting designs, analysis, and test results and create presentation materials
•Presenting designs, analysis, and test results to internal and external customers
•Working well within small- to medium-sized groups  NoVASpace

Basic Qualifications:
  • 14 years of industry experience with a STEM Degree (or 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD)
  • 5 years of spacecraft GNC experience
  • Active Top Secret Clearance is required to start 

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Masters Degree or PhD
  • More than 5 years of spacecraft GNC experience
