Adaptive Optics Associates – Xinetics (AOA Xinetics), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP), Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Venture, is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 to support Special Programs activities in East Hartford, CT.

AOA Xinetics (AOX) designs, develops, and manufactures precision, advanced optical products and systems such as deformable mirrors, optical systems, adaptive optics control systems and silicon carbide optical structures for the U.S. Government, commercial customers, and U.S. defense prime and second-tier contractors. Markets for these technologies include civilian astronomy and semiconductor capital equipment as well as defense ISR and Directed Energy. Several potential direct and adjacent application areas also exist. The Company has substantial growth opportunities in support of many U.S. Government and NGSP business initiatives.

Overview

Reporting to the Special Programs Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineering Manager 1 will perform Manufacturing Engineering team support for the manufacturing organization. They will coordinate manufacturing engineering support resources with projects that support key business initiatives for Special Programs. Solve quality related issues and improvements related to the Manufacturing process. New product introduction ensuring MRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level) aligns to Program requirements as hardware transitions from development to production

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the East Hartford manufacturing Engineering organization as it relates to Special Programs activities

  • Collaborate with peers and peer organizations in the development of production items

  • Lead significant projects critical to improve manufacturing process capability & quality performance

  • Use data to promote RCCA methods to support legacy and new product production

  • Develop, plan, & implement capital requirements to support productivity improvements, technology insertion, manufacturing automation and capacity for future programs

  • Create and drive development /growth plans for team members

  • Drive product cost reduction through process improvements and deployment of new technologies

  • Identify systems and process goals (KPI’s) to ensure that work cells and equipment meet operational performance

  • Responsible for the review, feedback, and drive to release, of work instructions, material, and manufacturing flows

  • Encourage and develop standard work, procedures, and integrate industry-standard best practices for Continuous Improvement and LEAN implementation

  • Accountable to Operations in support of manufacturing safety, quality, delivery, employee, and cost (SQDEC) for Special Programs Production Value Stream

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline with 5 years of related experience, or 3 years of experience with a Masters

  • Clear, concise oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient Microsoft Office applications

  • Occasional domestic travel up to 10%

  • U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for employment

  • Ability to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

  • Experience leading or managing engineers

  • Experience working in a commercial aerospace production environment

  • Experience in leadership of teams in resolving complex technical issues

  • Lean Sigma Green Belt or equivalent

  • Active TS/SCI

Physical Requirements:

  • This position is based in East Hartford, CT with occasional travel to Devens MA

  • Ability to work with hand tools

  • Ability to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time


Salary Range: $98,800 USD - $148,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
