Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Flight Test Tech 4 (Part-Time Mechanic) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the NASA Sky Range program. This position is located in Edwards Air Force Base, CA.
 

The Flight Test Tech 4 (Part-Time Mechanic) must have extensive flight test experience to support aircraft modifications and testing with global hawk aircraft. This is a part-time position requiring 25-30 hours per week maximum. The selected candidate should have experience with aircraft maintenance, systems check-out, pre and post-flight processes. The NASA Sky Range program works closely with NASA on a NASA facility and employees will follow Northrop Grumman and NASA procedures. Sky Range is on a 9/80B schedule and some overtime and travel may be required.
 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under supervision, the Flight Test Technician performs developmental, experimental, and production aircraft maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and testing tasks in a field of specialization; electrical/electronic, mechanical, or instrumentation.
  • Instructs, coordinates and performs the duties/functions of Flight Test personnel in the area(s) of assignment.
  • Determines the sequence for installing, removing, maintaining, repairing, or fabricating critical aircraft components, or electrical/electronic, mechanical, or instrumentation systems.
  • Performs testing, rework and repair in various fields of specialization.
  • Applies shop theory and skills in accomplishing assigned tasks working from incomplete engineering, electronic data, blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings, technical orders, and written and verbal instructions.
  • Works from blueprints, engineering orders, schematics, repair manuals, and other technical documents on aircraft electrical/electronic, mechanical, plumbing, and hydraulics, power plant, structures, or instrumentation systems.
  • Performs drilling, reaming, fitting, assembly, trimming, riveting, splicing, insulating, and other associated duties as assigned.
  • Performs electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation maintenance, repair, and testing in support of specific flight test projects.
  • Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains various types of complex aircraft equipment, components, devices, or systems.
  • Performs modifications and adjustments as necessary.
  • Notifies lead personnel or supervision of any / all malfunctions, defects, and damages of equipment, material, and product.
  • Checks work for completeness and accuracy.
  • Performs Production Accountability duties associated with the processing, verification, quality auditing, and inspection of assemblies, parts, and tooling for which the individual has been delegated production accountability.
  • May be required to work in other fields incidental to, and in connection with the completion of the assignment.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of industry-related experience
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and multiple shifts on a part-time basis
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance at the Secret level
  • Experience working in a production or test environment.
  • Must be able to work from extended work platforms at elevated heights and for an extended period of time
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Must have experience with aircraft maintenance, systems check-out, pre and post-flight processes. 
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of ply orientation and vacuum bagging process
  • Ability to complete repairs on composite materials
  • Ability to use tools such as drills, impact drills/guns, drill bits, drill taps, counter syncs, saws, and grinders
  • Electrical certification
  • In-Scope Active DoD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $70,700 USD - $117,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
