Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Autonomy Software or Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
This position will be located in El Segundo, Rancho Bernardo, or Palmdale, CA.
Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector team is seeking a talented and highly motivated Software or Principal Software Engineer to continue advancement in our leading-edge UAV Control and Mission Management Software for our most advanced autonomous systems. This project involves the design and demonstration of complex mission control algorithms, human machine interfaces and use of cutting-edge AI/ML techniques for mission execution. Algorithms and user interfaces will be developed and demonstrated in hands on environments through the use of surrogate aircraft and large-scale software simulations. Products are then further matured through integration with many programs while using standards such as UCI, OMS, etc.
The ideal candidate will have software development experience in one or more of the following: C++/Java/Python programming, GUI development, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML), complex algorithm development, Docker cloud deployment and hands-on HW/SW integration skills in a lab and demonstration environment.
Primary responsibilities will be design, development, integration and testing of the prototype software. This person must enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic team environment. They should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This position offers multiple opportunities to work with other highly energetic team members both within the immediate team as well as coordinate collaborative development across projects and teams.

Basic Qualifications Engineer Software:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 2 years of experience; OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a STEM related discipline from an accredited university
- Candidate must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance
- Proficient in C++, Java, Python or a web scripting language such as JavaScript, JSON, HTML, etc.
- Must enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic team environment
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Basic Qualifications Principal Engineer Software:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of experience; OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a STEM related discipline from an accredited university with 3 years
- Candidate must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance
- Proficient in C++, Java, Python or a web scripting language such as JavaScript, JSON, HTML, etc.
- Must enjoy working in a fast paced and dynamic team environment
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Department of Defense Secret or Top Secret level security clearance
- Relevant experience in user interface or Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) development
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes cloud deployment
- Experience with software design for autonomous unmanned vehicles (either real time embedded software or command and control interface)
- Experience using Red Hat Linux
- Familiar with standards such as UCI/OMS
This position reports to El Segundo, CA, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 2 locations listed above.
