Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal or Senior Principal Autonomy Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

This position will be located in El Segundo, Rancho Bernardo, or Palmdale, CA.

Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector team is seeking a talented and highly motivated Autonomy Software Engineer to develop leading-edge software for our most advanced autonomous systems.  This individual will be a decision-maker for the execution plan and implementation of software infrastructure that will shape the future of autonomy.

The ideal candidate will have experience with architecture design and upgrades for system infrastructure in combination with design, development, integration, and testing of software.

Primary responsibilities include system infrastructure development, process improvement, cloud environment integration, software configuration management, and integrating HW/SW in lab and demonstration environments.  Software will be deployed to large-scale software simulation and surrogate aircraft environments.  This position offers multiple opportunities to work with other highly energetic team members both within the immediate team as well as coordinate collaborative development across projects and teams.

***This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Software Engineer level or Senior Principal Software Engineer level ***

Basic Qualifications Principal Engineer:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of experience; Master's Degree in Computer Science or a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 3 years of experience; OR PhD Degree in Computer Science or a STEM related discipline from an accredited university

- Candidate must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance

- Proficient in C++ and Java

- Proficient with Git

Basic Qualifications Senior Principal Engineer:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 9 years of experience; OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a STEM related discipline from an accredited university with 7 years of experience; OR PhD Degree in Computer Science or a STEM related discipline from an accredited university with 4 years of experience

- Candidate must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance

- Proficient in C++ and Java

- Proficient with Git

Preferred Qualifications:

- Current Department of Defense Secret or Top Secret level security clearance

- Software architecture design, development, integration, and test

- Experience with software performance monitoring and analysis

- Comfortable in a Linux shell environment

- Proficient with cross-platform build tools such as CMake and Gradle

- Experience deploying and debugging containers in Docker/Kubernetes environments

- Experience with standards such as OMS/UCI

- Familiarity with basic Linux system administration commands


Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
