Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager 2, to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.

The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Manager is responsible for identifying, analyzing, testing and integrating manufacturing processes and systems within a portfolio of current, and next generation products within the aeronautics sector.

As an Advanced Manufacturing Technology Manager, you will be responsible for leading a diverse and innovative team in defining, developing, implementing, and transitioning new technology solutions to manufacturing to increase efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality. In this role, you will provide guidance to ensure the successful implementation of new solution capabilities released to production, and specification requirements to best utilize resources and manufacturing techniques, while ensuring processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. This role involves interfacing with internal and external customers, program offices, engineering disciplines, and executive management.

Approximately 10-12 direct reports, including engineers and engineering technicians are expected with the responsibility to manage and plan detailed schedules through multiple funding streams, and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

Requirements include:

  • Providing guidance regarding detailed engineering designs and requirements for transitioning producible, affordable products and manufacturing techniques into production.
  • Responsible to attract and retain the best possible “athletes” for the stated requirements, ensure robust processes, and the development of future emerging leaders within the organization.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with company and government regulations.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with a high level of internal and external engagement, acting as an advisor to individual contributors, senior management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
  • Leadership characteristics and people engagement is of the upmost importance, with an ability to exhibit professionalism and foster a team working and learning environment.
  • Communication is paramount, with an ability to clearly define expectations and work thru complex interpersonal interactions.  Daily coordination across functions and levels, including direct reports, peers, and leadership are key to success.
  • Willingness to step-up and assume accountability when the perception of need exists. 
  • Must also have the ability to accomplish tasks in a positive manner while managing multiple projects at the same time with varying levels of technical maturity.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (STEM) with 7 years’ manufacturing/production, engineering, and/or leadership experience or Master’s Degree (STEM) and 5 years’ manufacturing/production, engineering, and/or leadership experience
  • Firm understanding of composites bagging, layup, and curing processes
  • Must have a current and active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Transition to Production (TTP) initiatives or projects
  • Familiarity with production environments and Manufacturing Technology development processes such as DoD MRL/MRA.  Demonstrated history of technology implementation related to aviation and space products
  • Experience in the development, capture, and execution of R&D technology capabilities.  Assessing maturity of new technology for transition to production
  • Demonstrated history leading and management of multi-functional teams.
  • Previous experience with the development of manufacturing processes and technologies
  • EVMS experience and demonstrated successes in project management Experience as a Control Account Manager (CAM)

Salary Range: $118,600 USD - $178,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
