Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for the Principal Engineer Software to join our DARPA Guaranteed Architectures for Physical Security (GAPS) team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.

Duties Include:

  • The candidate will work with the DARPA GAPS team which is seeking a talented, self-motivated software engineer to join an exciting, complex, mission-focused hardware/software development project working with a team of qualified, diverse individuals based in Redondo Beach. The selected candidate will support an ongoing contract activity in data security device development, integration and evaluation.
  • Candidate will be engaged in the software integration, test, verification and evaluation of such devices and will include multiple levels of the OSI model. Security devices will include a software IDE and toolchain, including language and compiler extensions, which must be evaluated. In addition the candidate will be involved in developing system and software modeling using MBSE toolchains to characterize and represent behavior and functionality of various system components.
  • Tasks include writing software to integrate software and hardware components and support demonstrations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related engineering experience OR Master’s Degree with 3 years of software engineering experience.
  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
    • Department of Defense Secret level with a background investigation date within 10 years OR Department of Energy L clearance with a background investigation date within 10 years.
  • Operations or system administration experience, particularly on Linux.
  • Experience with container networking on Docker and networking protocol TCP/IP
  • Solid knowledge and hands-on experience with C, C++, Python, Java and Git
  • Experience with Agile development and continuous built/test cycle.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with UML/SySML Modeling tools like Rhapsody, Cameo, RSA, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience working with network security, Cross Domain Solution, and networking protocols including IPSEC, TCP/IP, TLS, MPLS, and MP-BGP
  • Background with Software architecture design and implementation using different approaches (Client/Server, ESB/Mule/ActiveMQ/ZeroMQ, synchronous and asynchronous applications, distributed and centralized etc.).
  • Prefer candidate to have and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
    • Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR Department of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years.
  • Conversant with advanced concepts in:
    • Strong Data Typing
    • Memory Management
    • Asynchronous and Concurrent operations
    • UML/Object orientation
    • Frames/Templates
    • UI / Presentation Layer
    • Interrupts and Polling
    • Networking and Device Drivers
    • IDE, CLI, RTOS, Cross-compilers
  • Ability to perform software analysis such as:
    • Lexical Analysis
    • Complexity Analysis
    • Performance Analysis and Benchmarkingutility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
