Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Business Development Rep to support our Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) business in Elkton, MD

The preferred location for this position is in Elkton, MD to be co-located with the PS&C Operating Unit, however alternate locations will be considered for well-qualified candidates.

Job Summary

This position will report to the Propulsion Systems and Control (PS&C) Business Development Director and will perform the duties of Business Development Lead for various opportunities.  The Business Development lead will work closely with the PS&C BD Director, the PS&C Operations Unit Director, various Program Managers and lead engineers to provide the company with new business development briefings. Travel will be up to 25-30%

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with the Propulsion Systems and Control (PS&C) operating unit and Program teams to develop customer relationships with existing and new customers, including senior company and government agency leaders to ensure products and company are well known and respected.
  • Support capture managers on various pursuits; lead customer relationship development (Prime OEMs and US Government customer) to understand need, budget, timelines, and competitor capability.
  • Assemble and execute new PS&C business strategies in line with the current business overarching strategy.
  • Make strategic adjustments to the PS&C Business Development Plans as necessary to adapt to product updates and evolving customer’s interest.
  • Provide inputs to internal M&S, B&P and IRAD resource allocation decisions based on knowledge of future customer needs.
  • Support Proposal Preparation, Review and Approval Process.
  • Develop and Perform to a Strategic Plan including multi-year sales and marketing strategic plans that identify key products and markets that will enable the company to achieve its goals of growth and profitability.
  • Create, update, and maintain SalesForce records to support new business opportunity pursuits, and gate reviews.
  • Build and execute marketing and communications plans to support the specific opportunities.
  • Regularly report to the company’s Management Team the status of all major PS&C opportunities assigned, and the status toward achieving the awards plan.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have 14 years of experience.  Will consider a bachloers degree with 10 years of experience or a masters degree with 8 years of experience.
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in capture management, business development, project/business/program management or engineering
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree strongly preferred
  • Domain expertise in US DoD Air and Missile defense programs (MDA, Navy, Army)
  • Understand the DoD & intelligence budgets and marketplace
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Government procurement policies and regulations
  • Active Secret Clearance


Salary Range: $120,000 USD - $180,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
