Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Energetics Manufacturing Engineer – Welding level 2 or 3 for our Elkton, Maryland location.

The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers.  The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA.

Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Primary Job responsibilities are:

  • Develop, optimize, and qualify weld processes and parameters for multiple welding processes including electron beam welding and/or laser beam welding.
  • Support production operations on full scale welded assemblies, providing direction to manufacturing engineers and welders on correct techniques in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Support design, manufacturing, and materials engineering with root cause analysis
  • Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results
  • Work closely with NDE personnel to interpret weld quality on development and flight hardware in addition to developing and implementing innovative state-of-the-art NDE techniques
  • Set up automated welding solutions in an effort to drive process consistency

This requisition may be filled at either an Energetics Manufacturing Engineer – Welding – Level  2 or Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Welding – Level 3

Basic Requirements Energetics Manufacturing Engineer – Welding – Level 2

  • This position emphasized skills and experience. Must have 6 or more years of experience as a manufacturing engineer. Will also consider a Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or higher with 2 years or more of manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment supporting assembly operations and equipment.
  • Experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Lean and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Requires some off shift and weekend work
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Must be able to acquire a DoD Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

Basic Requirements Principal Energetics Manufacturing Engineer – Welding – Level 3

  • This position emphasized skills and experience. Must have 9 or more years of experience as a manufacturing engineer. Will also consider a Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or higher with 5 years or more of manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment supporting assembly operations and equipment.
  • Experience in Statistical Process Control (SPC), Lean and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Requires some off shift and weekend work
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Must be able to acquire a DoD Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or other related engineering discipline.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location.  Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.

Salary Range: $78,600 USD - $118,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $96,900 USD - $145,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
