Core Job responsibilities:
Plans, designs and oversees the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of process equipment, infrastructure machinery, buildings, structures, and other facility related components. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets, scope definition, and contracts for construction and facilities projects. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, site preparation, and other project related costs. Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.
This position supports the engineering design for facilities projects to include equipment installation, infrastructure improvements and production area renovations. The candidate will also support coordination between engineering design and construction document preparation. Supports the approval process and qualification of newly installed equipment.
Other responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing detailed project budgets with time phased spend plans
- Developing and managing schedules that align with business needs
- Developing detailed scopes and statements of work for external and internal customers
- Ability to managing multiple projects throughout the course the year
- Function as the primary interface with contractors and in-house customers/ resources
- Function as the primary contact with design, engineering and architectural firms as required
- Coordinate with onsite mechanical, electrical, carpentry, instrumentation and maintenance groups for in-house projects and repairs
- Meet and report monthly on capital project status
This requisition may be filled at either Principal Facilities Engineer 3 or Sr. Principal Facilities Engineer 4, depending on years of experience and qualifications.
Basic Qualifications Principal Facilities Engineer 3:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- 5 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree
- 5 years of related facilities design and construction experience
- Ability to generate specifications and work with external suppliers or vendors
- Experience supporting mechanical design or equipment and systems for buildings
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical, architectural and civil engineering drawings
- Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance; U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite
Basic Qualifications Sr. Principal Facilities Engineer 4:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- 9 years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 7 years of experience with a Master’s degree or 4 years of experience with a PhD
- 9 years of related facilities design and construction experience
- Ability to generate specifications and work with external suppliers or vendors
- Experience supporting mechanical design or equipment and systems for buildings
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical, architectural and civil engineering drawings
- Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance; U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong desire to improve all facilities through recommendations and technical analysis
- Strong mechanical aptitude and facility equipment related knowledge base
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project
- Proficiency in AutoCad drawing software.
- Experience with design, layout and installation of manufacturing/ semi automated equipment
- Awareness of lean manufacturing principles including Kaizen, 5S, TPM etc.
- Strong organizational skills
- Hands on experience in rigging and equipment installation
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work autonomously
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
