Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Test Engineer - Campaign OBTE Engineer. This position will be located in Vandenburg Space Force Base, CA and will support the Sentinel – Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The successful candidate will support Flight and Ground Test system level testing as a Flight Test Campaign engineer On-Board Telemetry Equipment systems Principal Engineer.
Responsibilities will include:
- Installation, preparation, and check out of On Board Telemetry Equipment (OBTE) subsystems and monitoring for performance during flight testing
- Providing the documentation, technical implementation, and configuration for telemetry systems as part of a missile launch support system
- Technical experience with IRIG 108 Chapter 10, Pulse Code Modulation, Telemetry Description Documentation
- Guiding and participating in installation of OBTE systems on missile flight hardware
- Performing operational checkout of OBTE systems during flight test preparation
- Monitoring and controlling system during flight test as part of a mission execution team.
- Converting raw data to engineering units
- Real time telemetry decomutation and display (such as IADS)
- Participating in technical exchange meetings, interfacing with customers (internal/external) and contributing to a broad range of program deliverables.
- Knowledge of Model Based System Engineering

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
- 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.
- US Citizenship with an Active Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with on board flight instrumentation; developing and executing test engineering principles and processes.
- 1 year experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule
- Mechanical and Electrical design, or direct hands-on test experience required
- Prior experience in instrumentation of structures for static, fatigue and damage tolerance analyses, or electrical component/RF equipment test
- Experience with launch and/or countdown console operations
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Masters Degree or Higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) with 3 years experience.
- US Citizenship with an Active Top-Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification.
- Experience in telemetry formatting and experience with RF modeling tools, such as STK & RF lab equipment such as network analyzer, power meters, etc.
- Knowledge of GPS integration, Flight Test Instrumentation development, design, fabrication and test experience.
- Model Based System Engineering with an understanding of DODAF and SysML
- Demonstrated experience with system integration and test principles and processes.
- Prior experience test planning for a missile program or military aircraft program including RCC-319/324 Test experience.
