Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is currently recruiting for a Tool Designer 2/3 to join our team at the Sunnyvale, CA location.
Job Description:
The selected candidate will be responsible for the concept, design, fabrication drawings, inspection requirements, procurement requirements, verification requirements, and fabrication support for tooling and equipment for Naval applications. In addition they will oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects.
The successful candidate will also serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management. Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports. Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives. Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Interface with review team to assure customer satisfaction with design.
Work alongside the engineering and manufacturing team to ensure overall program quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.
Work with internal Customers to concept needed support equipment for new and existing programs.
Developing tooling concepts, creating/reviewing and improving manufacturing processes to meet Customer requirements.
Work closely with Tool and Manufacturing Engineers to create 3D CAD models and 2D final drawings.
Understand/monitor cost and schedule.
Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability.
Support vendors as needed during fabrication.
Inspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form and function.
Support continuous improvement.
Support Operations and Process Engineering in the use of all tooling.

This requisition may be filled at either a Manufacturing Engineer or Principal Manufacturing Engineer level.
Basic Qualifications Engineer Tool:
Bachelor's in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 2+ years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience.
Other degree fields can be consider with experience.
Experience in 3D CAD modeling using standard commercial CAD software.
Experience in 2D drafting and drawing creation from 3D models.
Experience modifying existing 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.
Minimum 2-5 years technical experience in design and fabrication of special tooling and related equipment. May be hired one level higher with education and 5+ years of work experience.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate vendor and equipment capability and ability to perform required tasks to include production of tooling as well as unique aerospace part production.
NX modeling and drafting experience.
Basic Qualifications Principal Engineer Tool:
Bachelor's in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 5+ years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of experience.
Other degree fields can be consider with experience.
Experience in 3D CAD modeling using standard commercial CAD software.
Experience in 2D drafting and drawing creation from 3D models.
Experience modifying existing 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.
