Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Engineering 2 – RF Microwave Design to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Hopkinton, MA facility. We are a world-class manufacturer of High-Power RF components and antennas for military applications. We design and manufacturer solutions for our war fighters to keep our country safe and maintain peace on a global scale.
Our team is engaged in the design, development, and manufacturing of antenna and passive microwave components for Electronic Warfare (EW) aerospace applications and associated Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). We have a strong cultural focus on design for manufacturability and therefore have our manufacturing and engineering resources co-located within the facility. In addition to our in-house machining, assembly, and quality capabilities, our test department has two antenna ranges. One is a far field range, and the other is a near field scanning range. The test department also has multiple PNAs giving us measurement capability to 50GHz on site. Design development and manufacturing use industry standard software packages which are readily available.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities:
- Leads Radio Frequency (RF) design of microwave components and antennas
- Generate development documents including Performance Specifications, Test Plans, and proposal support
- Technical assistance to subcontracts and business development in negotiation of component performance specifications
- Work with internal teams and customers to develop solution paths
- Cover the full life cycle of projects from inception through production
The ideal candidate will lead our Antenna and Passive Component Engineering group. They will require a strong technical lead with a focus on business development, budgets, and schedules. They will also be comfortable with working in a small team environment with a significant amount of autonomy and associated accountability and will have the ability to directly influence the development of business. All candidates must demonstrate prior working experience in the aerospace industry.
This position will be performed mainly onsite working a 1st shift 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in a STEM related discipline and a minimum of 9 years of relevant engineering experience, Master of Science in a STEM discipline with 7 years of relevant engineering experience, PhD with 5 years of relevant engineering experience
- Relevant experience in aerospace industry with design and development of antenna apertures and passive RF components, in particular High-Power Broadband for the EW market
- Experience with High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS)
- Emphasis on design for manufacturability
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as dip-brazing, plating, and machining
- Ability to develop product designs independently and verify those designs through prototype and testing
- Experience with mechanical drawings and geometric tolerance
- Experience in the creation and execution of Acceptance Test Plans and Qualification Test Plans
- Project Leadership experience in scheduling, budgets, product costing, internal and external customer interface, reports and presentations, Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR)
- Experience with Statement of Work (SOW) and specification compliance review
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Active DoD Secret Security Clearance within a reasonable time as required by the business
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Prior leadership experience
- Experience with the test and measurement of antenna and RF passive components, utilizing Orbit FR 959 for field and scanning range test equipment such as a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)
- High Power RF component design, Waveguide and Coaxial
- Quad Ridged Antenna design
- High Power Broad Band component design
- Experience with Solid Works
- Proposal writing experience and business development support
- Prior project leadership and/or systems engineering experience
