Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems – Propulsion Division is looking for an Additive Manufacturing Designer/Modeler to join our team at the Promontory (Corinne) UT, Facility.
Description & Responsibilities:
This position provides Additive Manufacturing support for Northrop Grumman products, tooling, shop aids and facilities. The role supports numerous rocket motor programs including the USAF Minuteman missile, the US Navy Trident (D5) missile, NASA space programs as well as developing rocket motors such as CBS, Hypersonics, Castor and GEM motor programs. This position supports additive manufacturing design, fabrication and processing for all Propulsion Systems organizations with a primary focus on the Integrated Engineering organizations. The position also supports work across multiple NG business units in and outside of Utah.
The role reports up through the Science and Engineering organization at Propulsion Systems and will augment the existing build team reporting to the Engineering Manager of the DD&I group. It involves the design, modeling, fabrication, scheduling, and delivery of Additive Manufactured parts using FDM technologies in the Promontory AM centers.
Job Duties:
Support 3D printers on site at Promontory UT
Prepare Builds: Provide design and CAD modeling support in the design, fabrication and delivery of 3D printed parts, tooling and shop aids using NX CAD models and Stratasys FDM printers.
Schedule Work: Manage print jobs, prioritize work based on due dates, meet with management and engineers to determine priorities, then work with multiple machines to meet customer deadlines.
Prepare Documentation: Document designs and build models in PLM and Manf systems. Prepare notes and document procedures used for 3D printing. Document time, labor and materials used, charge codes for appropriate tracking and billing per company command media.
Order Materials: Prepare purchase requests, submit orders and receive materials from approved suppliers for 3D printing.
Track Inventory: Monitor and maintain material inventory to ensure adequate print material is on hand to meet print requests. Track material usage for proper internal and external charging.
Fabricate 3D Prints: Submit print job and operated multiple 3D printers. Control quality of builds. Perform part cleanup, assembly and finishing.
Ensure Compliance and Testing; Work with engineers, quality, testing labs to ensure that parts and materials meet specifications and contamination requirements.
Manage Labs and Equipment: Keep AM labs clean and operational. Troubleshoot 3D printers. Submit service and repair calls on equipment and facilities as needed.
CAD Modeling and Drafting: Support the DD&I group with modeling or design work when time or printer workload allows.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience with CAD modeling software.
Ability to travel: Travel expectation would be less than 10%
Good written and oral communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Self-directed and self-motivated. Strong team player.
Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance
Time management and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with additive manufacturing.
Experience with NX CAD modeling software.
Experience with FDM 3D printing/fabrication methods (or other polymer printing methods).
Experience with Stratasys 3D printers.
Experience with Siemens NX/Teamcenter, GrabCAD, Stratasys Insight modeling and printing software.
BS Degree, Technical Certificate in applicable field or experience in Design and 3D Printers.
Education
Bachelors in mechanical engineering is preferred, with 2 years of experience, will consider other related engineering degrees or High School Diploma and 4 years of experience
