Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal/Mechanical Engineer - Lab Design. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel – Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The selected candidate will join a lab design team researching, planning, designing, and implementing test-specific mechanical and electrical systems and instrumentation. You will engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages (PDP). PDPs consists of 2D drawings and 3D models (NX), various design analyses/assessments (structural/thermal), bill of materials and parts lists, and requirements. Candidate must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction. Specific roles and duties include:
• Design of rigs for testing mechanical components
• Design of mounting solutions for electronic components
• Thermal analyses of test hardware
• Design of instrumentation systems for collecting thermal, stress/strain, and current/voltage information from systems under test
• Work across disciplines and functional groups to maintain list of measurements and instrumentation requirements
• Design of test-specific cables and wiring harnesses
• Lab floorplan and interconnect diagram design/maintenance

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Engineer Mechanical
• Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 2 years of experience; 0 years with Master’s Degree
• US Citizenship with an Active Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification.
• Experience using CAD design tools (i.e. NX, CATIA, etc.)
• Experience with electro-mechanical or instrumentation system development and design
• Experience in creating a PDP or PDP-like PLM product experience
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively with customer counterparts and other engineering disciplines
Principal Engineer Mechanical
• Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Master’s Degree; 0 years with PhD
• US Citizenship with an Active Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification.
• Experience using CAD design tools (i.e. NX, CATIA, etc.)
• Experience with electro-mechanical or instrumentation system development and design
• Experience in creating a PDP or PDP-like PLM product experience
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively with customer counterparts and other engineering disciplines
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
• Master's Degree or PhD in a STEM related field of study
as been previously approved for special access programs
• US Citizenship with an Active Top-Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification.
• Experience in ICBMs or Aerospace programs
• Experience with NX and Teamcenter
• Experience with Siemens Capital (AKA Mentor Capital)
• Experience with Cameo and/or DOORS
• Experience with Scrum, Agile, and Model Based Systems Engineering
• Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner
• Experience in leading/supporting a development engineering team
• Demonstrated experience working with customers to ensure project success
