Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector is seeking for a Sr Principal Electrical Design Engineer on the Infrastructure and Deployment team. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program in support of the United States Air Force. This position will be located in Roy, UT.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The Northrop Grumman Sentinel ICBM Facility Design Team is hiring a qualified Electrical Design engineer. This position will fill a critical technical role within a diverse team. The Sentinel Facility Design Team oversees the design of the facilities that support the future upgrade to the Minuteman III missiles as well as the unique flight test facilities. This role is part of the team responsible for defining the facility requirements of the new weapon system and ensuring they are incorporated into the facility designs. Therefore, those who join us have the privileged of learning every aspect of this program, from the interfaces with the Missile, to the plans and procedures required to execute construction for the United States Air Force. A large part of this job also includes engagement with the program partner, Engineering, Procurement and Construction firm. There is something for everyone on this team including design review, analysis, modeling, system engineering, test planning, scheduling, and risk management. Selected individuals will gain exposure to all these aspects as well as focusing on the tasks best suited to them.
The selected candidate will become a Electrical Design Engineer on the Infrastructure and Deployment team (IDT). This role supports the design, modeling, and integration efforts for Civil/Structural elements for Sentinel Launch Facilities, Launch Centers, or Test Facilities.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating Electrical systems design in accordance with scope of work.
Responsible for evaluating vendor documents to ensure specifications and data sheet requirements are met. Reviews the work of engineers and designers developing engineering and design documents as needed for the project.
Verifies complex calculations and applies standards correctly without supervision.
Reviews engineering deliverables consisting of one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment data sheets, hazardous area classification drawings, electrical power studies.
Reviews application of codes and standards for correct interpretations.
Supports the delivery of Electrical facility design Technical Data Packages, Issue-for-Construction (IFC) packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.
Ensures design product quality by reviewing Electrical designs and validating that current standards are applied.
Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues
Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.
Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.
Developing and maturing Electrical facility designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 9 years’ experience; 7 years’ experience with a Master’s degree; or 4 years’ experience with a PhD.
Must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) clearance.
Experience leading Electrical design efforts on MILCON, major infrastructure/building projects, or Aerospace and Defense programs.
Relevant experience must include experience with electrical and power systems design, knowledge of communication cabling, controls systems and engine/generator sets.
Experience with ETAP Electrical Power and/or EasyPower System Analysis software
Experience in power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and/or relay coordination
Knowledge of industry codes and standards, including the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), International Building Code (IBC) and/or Unified Facilities Criteria.
Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Word, Excel, Power Point, and Engineering Scheduling tools and applications
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Professional Engineering License
Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly and succinctly communicate complex concepts to both Government and corporate leadership
Proficiency with Revit, Siemens NX and Teamcenter
Active DoD Secret security clearance with the most recent investigation completed in the last 6 years.
Must be able to work independently, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
Civil/Structural Engineering degree from a 4-year ABET-accredited College/University.
