Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Digital Engineer to join our dynamic and diverse team environment in Orlando, FL. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of assigned features on a CDS system.
The Digital Engineer is responsible for development, implementation, debugging, and testing of VHDL used in systems, subsystems, and test platforms for defense applications.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Implement and/or utilize Aurora 64B/66B protocols in FPGA fabric.
- Implementing I2C, SPI, RS-232, RS-485 protocols in FPGA fabric.
- Interacting with IP vendors and follow-on integration.
- Work with software and electrical engineers to architect, implement, and debug complex electronic and software designs.
- Develop test infrastructures, writing documentation and ensuring high performance.
- May work with customers, suppliers, and users of the devices.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent and 9 years of experience OR Master’s degree with 7 years of experience
- Active in scope DoD Secret clearance or higher
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Experience with system design interfacing to a wide array of electro-mechanical subsystems and debugging experience.
- Experience with Xilinx FPGAs, VHDL, microcontrollers, microprocessors and mixed-signal designs.
- Experience with Vivado Design Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience planning out development and schedule to meet key program milestones
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
- Experience developing test infrastructures, writing documentation and ensuring high performance.
- Demonstrated strong ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction – from system to the detailed implementation.
- Experience using electrical design equipment (oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, etc.)
- Experience building of electronics systems including use of hand tools, ESD protected electronics handling, 3U VPX circuit cards, etc.
- Experience with mixed signal and embedded system design (including ARM-based controllers, FPGA, DSP, power management, electrical signal characterization, and interfacing environmental sensors).
- Experience with Aurora 64B/66B protocols in FPGA fabric.
- Experience with AXI-Bus / AXI-Stream.
- Experience working in an Agile Development environment
- Experience operating with Atlassian Products (Jira, Confluence, etc.)
- Experience with DoD system security and cyber standards
- C/C++ embedded device programming experience
- Experience with SoCs, & Questa Advanced Functional Verification tools
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
