Electrical Engineering Manager 1 – Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE)
Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering Manager to join our Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) group in our Chandler, AZ facility. Our electrical ground support equipment team supports our programs with the design, test, and sustainment of all EGSE and test support equipment hardware used in the integration and launch of our vehicles. Our EGSE team members work in a diverse set of roles across the lifecycle of a program.
Job Duties: Based on program and department objectives, work with Program Managers and lead electrical engineers to support the day-to-day activities of the EGSE engineering team assigned to their respective programs. Act as a technical lead, technical contributor, or technical consultant on various projects. Focus attention on the career development needs of the team members. The EGSE team supports all aspects of EGSE system design and may support vehicle design, integration, and test using a wide range of avionics electronic assembly products.
Job responsibilities:
- Understanding and application of company electrical engineering technical standards.
- Strong technical expertise and working knowledge of other related disciplines.
- Ensures standard processes, procedures and command media are followed; including Safety, 5S, Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Control, Electrostatic Discharge Control (ESD) control, Tool Control, among others.
- Provides formal peer review of engineering designs or analyses.
- Solicits process improvement ideas from the team and leads driving those efforts to realization.
- Work with program managers and engineering leads to ensure the right people, processes, and tools are in place to meet the business needs.
- Work with the electrical engineering leads to help oversee the supervision of engineering activity and work products, workload management, and the performance management process.
- Function as a key contributor, managing assigned responsibilities and directing the work of the leads and engineers to accomplish business goals.
- Plan manpower requirements as well as conduct quarterly and annual performance reviews of staff.
- Identify, manage and grow the critical skills development process for the engineering team.
- Motivates team; actively, effectively participates and contributes in a positive manner.
- Train and mentor early career engineers in Electrical Engineering and test standards.
- Makes an extra effort to provide quality internal and external customer service.
- Work with the engineering team to identify causes of problems and develop solutions.
- Perform data analysis to identify trends in system performance or processes that may indicate poor performance or degradation and then suggest methods to intercept and mitigate the degradation.
- Act with safety as your number one priority through every aspect of the role.
Desired Experience:
- Experience as technical manager, lead, or similar leadership role with mentoring, team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Design, test, and/or integration and deployment of electrical ground support equipment (EGSE), automated test equipment (ATE), or test support equipment (TSE).
- Burndown of nonconformances and/or root cause failure analysis of electronic systems. Familiarity with Fault Tree analyses.
- Release of engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test procedures.
- Management or tracking of projects through a product life cycle.
- Manufacturing support during the production of test equipment products.
- Experience with telemetry systems including decoms and chapter 10 recorders.
- Development or support of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) or other integrations labs.
- Developing schedules, budgets, and requirements with minimal oversight.
- Problem solving not only for technical issues, but also for schedule, cost, resource and other project challenges.
- Mentoring and cross-training team members across a diverse set of technologies and equipment architectures used to meet customer requirements.
- Knowledgeable with the use of basic test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs, and electronic loads.
- Circuit design and analysis.
Also seeking experience in any of the following:
- LabVIEW programming and NI hardware and software products.
- Contributions to process improvement initiatives.
- CompTIA Security+ or similar certifications.
- Experience with classified test systems or systems subject to cyber security policies.
Basic Qualifications:
- Requires 5 years with a Bachelor’s in Engineering or 3 years with a Master’s in Engineering.
- Strong leadership, influence, and people management skills. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to effectively communicate to all levels of employees, management, and customers.
- Experience managing people preferred.
- Ability to obtain a DoD Active Secret Clearance is required.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
