Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for an Engineer Electromechanical/Principal Engineer Electromechanical in our Mechanisms & Deployable Product Dept to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
As a member of the Optomechanical design team, candidate will support post-IDR3 design completion and transition into production activities for a laser beam alignment and stabilization system. Includes, but not limited to, maturing conceptual designs with an emphasis on detail drawing completion. Could require in-person coordination with machine shop personnel and subsequent hardware integration.
This requisition may be filled at either a Engineer Electromechanical or Principal Engineer Electromechanical level based on the qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications - Engineer Electromechanical
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 2 years of engineering professional experience; OR M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with no years of engineering professional experience
Basic Qualifications – Principal Engineer Electromechanical
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 5 years of engineering professional experience; OR M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university with 3 years of engineering professional experience; OR PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM technical discipline from an ABET accredited university
BS or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace or Optomechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Capable of working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
Able to work with minimal supervision and able to adapt to a dynamic environment
Experience designing products to meet “military” operational and environmental requirements
Must be able to create fully dimensioned optical and mechanical component and assembly drawings IAW Aerospace & Defense Standards
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing IAW ASME Y14.5-2009
Preferred Qualification:
Optomechanical design experience
Directed Energy experience
Experience based understanding of manufacturing processes to include, but not limited to: conventional machining, additive manufacturing, welding, grinding, sheet metal, lapping and electrical discharge machining
Experience designing with and specifying post-processes using industry and/or NG standards for components manufactured from aluminum, aluminum honeycomb panels, carbon fiber composites, titanium, stainless steel, invar and fused silica
Experience designing special tooling and equipment in support of precision optical alignment and performance verification
Experience designing stable, minimal aberration inducing, optical mounts with multiple degrees of freedom
Experience designing flexure optical mounts
Experience packaging electronic components and assemblies for laboratory and military environments
Proficient in using CATIA V5 CAD & SmarTeam PDM software
