Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Sr. Principal Antenna & RF Test Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals in Redondo Beach, CA.
Responsibilities not limited to demonstrating extensive technical experience as it applies to antenna and RF measurement techniques. Effective communication and demonstrated ability to clearly present technical approaches and findings regarding RF and Antenna measurements is essential to the role.
Primary responsibilities will span application of advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts in Antenna measurement techniques of mission-enabling Antenna products for space. Contributions to the development of new principles and concepts, collaboration with technical leadership on Antenna system test requirements and associated test procedure flow down, problem solving in support of translating system requirements verification into test methodologies, and Antenna system performance verification including anechoic chamber measurements.
Essential Functions:
- Antenna RF measurement system design, analysis, and/or verification work is performed with consultant level direction.
- Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of Antenna characterization activities in support of RF Design and analysis efforts
- Proposed advances on antenna RF test methodologies are reviewed from a relatively long- term perspective, for program and / or functional homeroom desired results on Long Range Strategic Plan
- Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role on Antenna RF test efforts and related project scope
- Demonstrated knowledge in more than one area in electromagnetic theory, electromagnetic analysis, and performance budgeting/allocation in RF systems or subsystems
- Incorporation of lessons learned and experiences in design/analysis, innovative thinking, and familiarity with the state-of-the-art
- Demonstrates clear communication & efficient information flow to project teams and functional homeroom management, as well as fulfilling reporting requirements to customer & program management
- Identifying and collaborating on opportunities to reduce cost and improve processes
- Represents the organization as the RF Antenna System Test prime technical contact on contracts and projects
- Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters related to Antenna System Test and Measurement; collaborates on solutions where needed

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and 9 years of experience with designing/analyzing/testing radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave Antenna systems, RF devices, or RF measurement systems OR 7 years of experience with a Master of Science degree OR 4 years of experience with a PhD.
- Proficiency with MATLAB, VBA, Python and/or other related programming languages
- Proficiency using any of the following software suites: NSI2000, MI3000, and any other Antenna range control software
- Demonstrated experience in the field of Electromagnetics propagation. Experience with the following: antenna system requirements translation to antenna test plans and procedures, support to antenna RF system design verification, post-processing, and analysis, RF link budgets, antenna system performance verification including range testing.
- Candidate must have the ability to obtain, and maintain a U.S. Government TOP SECRET security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Electromagnetics from an accredited institution and at least 10 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment producing flight hardware.
- Experience using GRASP and/or FEKO, or other computational electromagnetics software tools to validate antenna system measurements
- Technical experience in Antenna RF measurement and test involving any of the following categories: highly-integrated antenna systems, phased arrays, digital beamforming, reflector antennas, reflect-arrays, aperture antennas, wire antennas, antenna/range system RF performance analysis, RF electronics, digital electronics, power electronics, statistics, systems engineering, antenna control design, Antenna range testing, frequency mixers, measurement equipment automation, and data post-processing/reduction
- Experience with Antenna RF measurement system architectures and developments, Antenna RF system validation plan generation based on requirements flow down, team leadership in translating system requirements into verification test plans, and Antenna RF Payload level system performance verification including flight technology demonstrators, and programs of record.
- Candidate has, and can maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
- Dept. of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years
- SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years
