Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Operations Engineering organization is seeking a Principal/Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer for Precision Electronics Cleaning. This person will "own" a number of different PCB cleaning processes across multiple manufacturing cells including AMEC, SMT and Feed Factory.
The Principal/Senior Principal Manufacturing Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the tasks outlined below:
Support the manufacture and assembly of printed circuit boards through ownership and development of cleaning processes and equipment.
Interface with Materials and Process Engineering teams as needed to resolve cleanliness issues and opportunities.
Support process, quality, and program teams for Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations involving cleaning as a process improvement or as a possible cause of failure.
Provide cleaning subject matter expertise and consulting to other areas of the sector as needed.
Support training and evaluation of process operators and engineers for local cleaning after manual soldering, including touch-up and rework.
Review and provide instruction for non-standard cleaning processes on rework and repair of printed circuit boards.
Collaborate with tooling team in the development of required tooling to support cleaning operations.
Support cleaning research and development projects as well as the justification and purchase of capital equipment.
Evaluate new cleaning chemistries for various cleaning processes.
Collaborate with Environmental, Health, and Safety team.
Evaluate cleanliness of as-received as well as in-process components.
Maintain supporting documentation as needed to meet J-STD-001 requirements.
This position may be filled as a Principal Engineer or a Senior Principal Engineer based on the requirements below.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer:
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or related STEM area, with minimum 5 years of professional experience or a Master's Degree and 3 years of professional work experience
Experience cleaning printed circuit boards and associated microelectronic components and materials
Experience with various cleaning processes such as aqueous in-line and aqueous batch cleaning, burnishing, mechanical abrasion, media blasting, lapping, solvents, vapor degrease, plasma clean, manual FOD picking, alcohol, acid etch, ultrasonic, and nitrogen blast
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance. US Citizenship is required.

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or related STEM area, with minimum 9 years of professional experience or a Master's Degree and 7 years of professional work experience
Experience cleaning printed circuit boards and associated microelectronic components and materials
Experience with various cleaning processes such as aqueous in-line and aqueous batch cleaning, burnishing, mechanical abrasion, media blasting, lapping, solvents, vapor degrease, plasma clean, manual FOD picking, alcohol, acid etch, ultrasonic, and nitrogen blast
Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance. US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with J-STD, MIL-STD and Space Class hardware requirements.
Experience with automated equipment and transport systems
Experience with the design or manufacturing of microelectronics technology and materials
Process/Manufacturing Engineering experience
