Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal level Electrical Engineer to develop electronics for motion control system applications based on specifications and goal‐oriented objectives. This position is responsible for the design, development, creation and modification of electrical schematics, PWB layouts, and electrical analysis. Scope of responsibility also includes verification of CCA designs and compliance to system level requirements and validation at the system level. Coordinates with members of multi‐functional teams to develop innovative solutions for implementation of electrical design with the greater electro-mechanical and propulsion system.
This position can be filled at either the Principal Electrical Engineer or Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer level, depending on years of experience and qualifications.
This position can be filled remotely with strong preference to those near the Elkton, Maryland facility and have a hybrid schedule.
Basic Qualifications Principal Electrical Engineer:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in STEM plus 6 years of experience. Will consider those with a Masters degree and 4 years of experience or a PhD with 2 years of experience.
- Experience implementing electrical designs using Mentor Graphics DX Designer
- Experience working in a cross functional environment (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, test engineering, production engineering, etc.) to translate customer requirements and functional block diagrams into realized Circuit Card Assemblies.
- Proven ability to define development test plans and methods to ensure a robust design is achieved and validates the design against customer, internal and regulatory / government requirements.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability organize/prioritize job assignments and tasks.
- Is able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Comfortable in a fast paced, rapidly changing, short turn-around environment.
- Is able to communicate clearly and effectively to cross-functional team members. Has strong writing skills and is proficient at documenting design and analysis reports as well as test reports.
- Position may require occasional travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.

- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in STEM plus 9 years of experience. Will consider those with a Masters degree and 7 years of experience or a PhD with 5 years of experience.
- Experience implementing electrical designs using Mentor Graphics DX Designer
- Experience working in a cross functional environment (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, test engineering, production engineering, etc.) to translate customer requirements and functional block diagrams into realized Circuit Card Assemblies.

Preferred qualifications for both levels:
- Strong preference for those with an Electrical Engineering degree.
- Experience with analog, digital, and power circuit design and analysis
- Experience working with 3-Phase Brushless DC Torque Motor drives: Drive Logic and Power Electronics
- Experience with resolver, encoder, and LVDT signal processing.
- Experience with the implementation of various BLDC control architectures utilizing Field Oriented Control and Space Vector Modulation.
- Conduct trade studies, identify and present alternate design options.
- Experience with Systems Engineering principles
