The Transformational Computing operating unit within Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is a highly motivated, talented, and growing organization focused on advancing the science and engineering of superconducting electronic systems into new capabilities and products. Transformational Computing is developing the technologies to transform computing beyond Moore’s Law by advancing development of computer architectures, processing and memory subsystems, and large-scale high-performance computing systems.
The Systems Engineering group is seeking an experienced candidate with a robust coding background that has a keen interest in test automation and data acquisition. The ideal candidate will have experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) in both Python and Matlab and have ample experience with standard lab instrumentation such as RF/DC sources and arbitrary waveform generators. This candidate is expected to aid in the development of algorithms, architecture, and analytical tools that contribute to automation software for a test lab.
The Superconducting Electronics Systems Engineer will:
- Interface and collaborate with the test teams to understand software requirements and to prototype software, such as baseline tools, updating the existing framework, designing software architecture, and develop instrument drivers.
- Assisting in the launching of tools developed by the software team, helping troubleshoot test lab bugs, and any other software related issues that arise during test operations.
- responsible for maintaining codebase through building unit tests and peer reviewing pull requests in an Agile framework.
- prototyping and improving test automation procedures, for example developing test modules that are able to collect metrics for a new design of experiment in an automated fashion.
This position will serve on-site in Linthicum/ Annapolis Junction, MD.
This position can be filled at either Principal or Senior Principal level.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Superconducting Electronics Systems Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a STEM discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar technical discipline with 5 years of related), or 3 years with a Master's Degree, or 0 years with a PhD.
- This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with poly clearance per business requirements.
- Experience and technical knowledge of at least four of the following:
- Ability to analyze organizational systems and associated challenges to find and propose more efficient solutions to accomplish operating unit tasking.
- Ability to meet program needs through accomplishing multiple projects in various stages from conception to completion.
- Experience working in an Agile framework within a software development lifecycle.
- Experience with test lab software and electronics.
- Experience in developing and contributing to a larger scale software project.
- Proficiency writing code in Matlab and Python in a version-controlled environment.
Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Superconducting Electronics Systems Engineer
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a similar technical discipline with 9 years of related experience, or 7 years with a Master's Degree, or 4 years with a PhD.
- This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with poly clearance per business requirements.
- Experience and technical knowledge of at least four of the following:
- Ability to analyze organizational systems and associated challenges to find and propose more efficient solutions to accomplish operating unit tasking.
- Ability to meet program needs through accomplishing multiple projects in various stages from conception to completion.
- Experience working in an Agile framework within a software development lifecycle.
- Experience with test lab software and electronics.
- Experience in developing and contributing to a larger scale software project.
- Proficiency writing code in Matlab and Python in a version-controlled environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience writing in an OOP-based codebase in Python or Matlab for a large team with multiple contributors/users with version-controlled requirements.
- Experience with defining and documenting software requirements.
- Experience with UI design and development (PyQt or Tkinter).
- Experience with electronic test equipment such as: Oscilloscopes, Source Meters, Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, etc.
- Experience working in a cryogenic testing environment.
- Capable of effective communication in a highly technical and collaborative environment.
- Active TS/SCI with poly security clearance.
