Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Sector is seeking a Director of Engineering which will be a full-time, onsite role in Woodland Hills, CA.
This position is responsible for providing the people, processes, and tools to meet the current and future needs of the programs and technologies within the NGMS portfolio. This role will provide the technical and people leadership and functional oversight needed to establish and maintain a world class engineering organization across multiple locations, divisions, and programs. This role will have overall responsibility for the development, design, implementation, application, training, and product support of state-of-the-art solutions in support of NGMS captures, programs and research and development in a cost-effective manner.
Team Leadership and Management: The Director of Engineering will lead a management and technical staff of approximately 650 engineers across multiple disciplines (Systems, Software, Hardware) who support a variety of programs in different life cycle stages. The director will manage departmental budgets, ensuring the team has the resources they require to be successful, while maintaining a cost-competitive organization.
As the Woodland Hills site lead for Engineering, this role will champion consistency across the disciplines ensuring reuse, common tools and training/skill development through all levels of the organization including management of design data (configuration management, printing wiring board layout, data management, drafting, standards and components, and product follow).
The most significant tasks included within the scope of this responsibility are:
- Management of team assignments across programs and Non-Contractual Technical Activity (NCTA)
- Maintenance of future staffing projections
- Staff management & administration
- Budget management
- Mentoring & career development, including training
Technical Performance: The Director of Engineering will support a variety of programs in different life cycle stages.
The most significant tasks that may be performed within the scope of this area include:
- Program performance monitoring & support
- Ensuring and monitoring quality of work products
- Engineering process improvement, maintenance & enforcement
- Program task management & team leadership
- Traditional program hardware engineering tasks.
Planning for the Future: The Director of Engineering will be instrumental in setting the path for the organization and supporting the strategic direction of the supported business areas.
The most significant tasks included within the scope of this area are:
- Support to new business capture
- Responsible for the creation, review and approval of project bids for the organization
- Independent technical reviews of major programs and R&D projects
- Technology vision / roadmap definition & maintenance
- Development of NCTA project definition
- Thought leadership toward product innovations
- Thought leadership toward business model innovations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical fields (STEM) with 10+ years of experience; or a Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical fields (STEM) with 8+ years of experience
- 9+ years of technical experience in any combination of Hardware, Systems, Software/Firmware engineering disciplines accompanied by high proficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
- A minimum of 5 years demonstrated success managing people and technical leadership roles effectively leading large, diverse technical teams
- Program management experience in either profit and loss or integrated product team
- Developed technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills with successful performance in bringing broader cross-discipline systems thinking to problem solving
- High proficiency in oral and written communications at all levels within an organization, internally, and externally
- Proficiency in typical office computer applications, and working familiarity with modern tools for electrical, mechanical and optical development activities (ECAD, MCAD, PLM, analysis, etc.)
- Working familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, and CMMI
- US Citizenship and an active DoD Secret Clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI and Special Access Clearance (SAP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty
- Experience as a technical leader and visionary
- A high proficiency in the design of electronic hardware designs for military customers and applications
- Working knowledge of NG procurement processes
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
