Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Weapons Engineer/Principal Weapons Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.
**This position may be filled by either at the Weapons Engineer level OR at the Principal Weapons Engineer level based on the qualifications listed.**
The Weapons Engineer is expected to be a highly-motivated self-starter with a demonstrated ability to operate effectively on a team of engineers and technicians. General understanding of Universal Armament Interface (UAI) compliant MIL-STD-1760 Stores Management Systems (SMS), MIL-STD-1553 and Suspension and Release Equipment (S&RE). Daily activities include architecture development and CAMEO modeling for weapon integration for both the SMS and the Suspension & Release Equipment (S&RE). Specific tasks performed in this role are system integration, functional and physical architecture modeling, and test planning for an air dominance aircraft.
The successful candidate must possess technical knowledge of SMS/S&RE-related hardware and software requirements and experience in the definition, design, integration, test, and certification (end-to-end development) and operation of SMS and S&RE. The successful candidate must also possess knowledge of governing standards to include UAI Platform-Store ICD, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, AS5653, etc., and must possess some experience preparing detailed requirements specifications, statements of work, test plans and procedures, certification plans and procedures, performance reports, etc., related to these governing standards.
The successful candidate will be expected to thoroughly understand all system requirements, specifications and interface control documents, prepare, monitor and update program schedules, conduct and participate in all related design reviews, and provide technical guidance to the cross-functional team.
Basic Qualifications for Weapons Engineer (T02):
Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) related field with 2 years engineering experience, OR 0 year of experience with a Masters in STEM
Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 4 years.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain access to Special Programs (SAP)
Must have at least 2 years of experience working with Weapons and Payload systems
In-depth knowledge of governing standards to include UAI Platform-Store ICD, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, AS5653
Basic Qualifications for Principal Weapons Engineer (T03):
Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) related field with 5 years engineering experience, OR 3 year of experience with a Masters in STEM
Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 4 years.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain access to Special Programs (SAP)
Must have at least 4 years of experience working with Weapons and Payload systems
In-depth knowledge of governing standards to include UAI Platform-Store ICD, MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, AS5653
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's in Engineering
Proficiency with Matlab, Simulink, Cameo
Experience performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Active Secret clearance with access to Special Programs
Experience with fighter aircraft and air-to-air weapons is a plus.
