Northrop Grumman Advanced Weapon Systems has an opening for a Principal Material Process Engineer or a Sr. Principal Material Process Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Northridge, CA.

This position is a 4-10, 1st shift position (workdays – Monday thru Thursday). Must be onsite.

The selected candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering organizations performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans. You will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems, and also apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Material Process Engineer:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience, Master's Degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience working with metals.

• Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Material Process Engineer:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degree with at least 9 years of relevant experience, Master's Degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
• Experience working with metals.

• Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications both levels:

• Advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science
• Relevant experience with working on military aircraft
• Experience with preparing and presenting oral and written reports
• Knowledge in material testing and lab equipment
• Experience in writing and maintaining material and process specifications
