Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an Engineer Energetics Tooling Level 2 for our Operations Engineering department for our Elkton, Maryland office.
The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Job Summary:
Engineering and design of a wide range of production tooling components for energetic aerospace propulsions systems including molds, lifting devices, handling fixtures, test fixtures, etc. and prepares input for documentation. Coordinates and develops tooling requirements with project engineering, process engineering, manufacturing, quality, etc. Responsible for coordinating tooling fabrication with machine shop and/or vendors, which includes establishment of scope and monitoring projects against planned scope. Responsible for tool use, check out, and follow up in production. Prepare estimates of tooling design and fabrication costs for proposals. Identifies opportunities for improvements to existing designs.
Basic Requirements Level 2:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or related degree
- Must have at least 2 years of experience in design
- A Masters degree in Mechanical engineering or related degree with 0 yrs
- Proficient with using Excel, Access, Power Point, Word, CAD and Modeling required
- Familiar with machine shop fabrication practices and material selection.
- Working knowledge of basic stress calculations for support structures.
- Composites and rubber molding background is a plus.
- Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5M)
- Must have good communication skills and demonstrated performance in a team environment
- Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
Preferred Requirements:
- Familiarity with Siemens NX and TcUA
- Prior manufacturing experience is a plus.
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
