Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an experienced Manufacturing Project Engineer to join a team responsible for International Design to Production Transition Programs with the Defense Sector team in the Plymouth, MN offices.
Location:
This position requires on-site support. Selected candidate will need to be within commuting distance to our site in Plymouth, MN. Relocation assistance for non-local candidates may not be available.

Position Description:
- Ensures pertinent design factors such as contractual, environmental, cost, schedule, technical performance, system integration, producibility, interchangeability, and material requirements are considered during development and program execution.
- Works with design, project, manufacturing, and quality engineers through the development process and ensures timely flow of information among and between engineering team members.
- Directs daily work activities for a small team (5-7 engineers).
- Develops schedules and provides oversight for several concurrent small internal projects.
- Works closely with the existing systems engineering and QMS processes to ensure proper rigor and technical acumen is applied throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Supports Engineering/Program Manager as a control account manager to ensure accurate schedule and cost tracking.
- Presents work products at program reviews, proposals, or other project meetings.
- Prepares and plans cost estimates and written technical proposals.
- Acts as a technical interface to external customers, and forms working relationships with representatives of external technical organizations.
- Supports manufacturing trade studies and early supplier involvement.
- Demonstrated project management skills and techniques including work breakdown structures, integrated master scheduling and earned value management.
- Experience writing statements of work and estimating project scope.
- Will involve sometimes stepping into other roles when needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Communicating issues and status frequently and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Technical understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes.
- Accountable for the successful completion of Design to Production Transition engineering projects.
- Requires extensive regular contact with assigned project customers, both internal and external.
- Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals.
- Participating in customer meetings and resolving engineering and management project issues.
- Design or update manufacturing and assembly process documents.
- Read, understand, and modify equipment/machinery and product drawings and specifications, in both production and testing environments.
- Generate and maintain lists of open issues and diligently track them to resolution.
- Perform failure analysis of physical and functional test results when results do not meet requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- This position emphasizes skills first.
- Must have 6 years of experience in manufacturing and production of mechanical components and/or systems.
- Will consider a bachelor’s degree in engineering plus 2 or more years of experience, or master’s degree plus 0 experience.
- 2+ years of Project Engineering experience.
- Small team leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area.
- 10 years of relevant professional experience
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing or leading projects and/or people.
- Familiarity with Design of Equipment, Tooling, Process Development and Manufacturing Process.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Fluency in MS Office software applications
