Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a experienced Materials & Processes Engineer / Principal Materials & Processes Engineer specializing in composite materials for airframe structures to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. Position located in Iuka, MS.
Key responsibilities:
Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production composite issues
Generates test plans & reports
Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems
Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes
Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications
Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications
May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures
May travel to subcontractor locations
Basic Qualifications:
(This requisition may be filled at either level based on qualifications below)
M&P Engineer (level 2) requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 2 years of experience to include a background in composite materials for airframe structures
Principal M&P Engineer (level 3) requires a minimum of a BS in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years of experience to include a background in metallic materials, composite materials, non-destructive inspections, or coatings and/or subsystems for airframe structures OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience to include a background in metallic materials, composite materials, non-destructive inspections, or coatings and/or subsystems for airframe structures
Experience with composite fabrication and design on aircraft
Experience with repair processes composite materials used in aerospace structures
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance prior to start
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree discipline in Materials Science or similar
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate in a team environment
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously
Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions
Experience with military specs and standards
Experience interfacing with a military customer
