Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Material Process Engineer in support of the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure. This position is located in Roy, UT. This position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications below.
What You’ll Get To Do
- Candidate will be responsible to perform full spectrum of parts management tasks on assigned system and sub-systems to ensure streamlined selection, approval, and standardization of preferred or commonly used parts during the design of weapon systems and equipment under an overarching Systems Engineering framework.
- Candidate will also develop/maintain a bill of material, Program Parts Selection List (PPSL), Program Approved Parts List (PAPL), Program Approved Material and Process List (PAMPL) and perform issue management through solution implementation.
- Candidate will demonstrate a complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts relative to parts management. Candidate will also demonstrate general knowledge of Systems Engineering, multi-generational program system and/or multi-generational program subsystem development, and familiarity with supplier management.
- Work independently to provide innovative technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
- Analyze, research, design and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems, and subsystems.
- Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and or composite material and processing specifications, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Develops, analyzes, and applies material properties and design allowable, processing processes and quality engineering specifications.
- Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications.
- May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
- Maintain close coordination with several integrated product teams, provide detailed status to program leadership, participate in parts management technical interchange meetings, as required.
- Complete work under general direction, and work in teams.
- Frequent use of Microsoft Office tools.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Basic Qualifications:
This position may be filled at a Principal or Sr. Principal level
- Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering discipline from an accredited university
- Requires a minimum 5 years of related engineering experience with a bachelor's degree; 3 years with a master's degree; 1 year with a PhD (Sr Principal requires 9 years with bachelor's degree; 7 years with a master's; or 4 years with a PhD)
- Experience with parts such at mechanical fasteners, O-rings, and gaskets and the associated ASTM, ASME, SAE standards and military specifications
- Experience leading a team in successful completion of projects
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management tools, bill of materials (BOM), BOM Intelligence tools
- Experience with supplier management
- US Citizenship with an Active, In-Scope DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years, and must have the ability to obtain special program access
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Special Program Access
- Experience with Air Force Global Strike Command
- Experience with Minuteman III parts and obsolescence management
- Strong understanding of entire product lifecycle, modeling, and engineering best practices
- Understanding of process/procedure development, control, and improvement
- Parts management experience within Aerospace and Defense industry
- Experience managing Program Parts Selection List (PPSL), Program Approved Parts List (PAPL), Program Approved Material and Process List (PAMPL)
- Familiar with Systems Engineering framework and concepts
- Experience with Siemens Teamcenter, NX solid modeling
- Experienced with Microsoft Office tools
- Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
