The Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit headquartered in Annapolis, MD is seeking dependable individuals willing to work in a collaborative environment and that are interested in expanding their horizons. The Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Systems Engineer (Life Support) with an extensive life support system design background in manned submersibles to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
Essential Functions:
As a Life Support Engineering team member, you will drive and contribute to design and development of critical components and systems for man rated systems. You will be developing new designs from concept through detailed design, manufacture, and test phases. Job responsibilities also include supporting manufacturing activities on existing production contracts. Travel may be required to support supplier and customer meetings.
The candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (such as Mechanical, Ocean, Aerospace, etc.) and 9+ years of relevant work experience; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD
General knowledge in mechanical engineering principles including developing design concepts, performing trade studies, and conducting supporting evaluations and analyses.
Recent experience and detailed knowledge of piping system design including compressible gases and compressible fluid flow
Recent experience and detailed knowledge in life support system design concepts including, but not limited to, applicable industry and military specifications and standards, diving physics, diving physiology, decompression theory, carbon dioxide removal systems, hyperbaric chamber design, chamber environmental control, and metallic and non-metallic material selection for oxygen and high oxygen partial pressure compatibility.
US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7+ years of work experience
Proficiency in GD&T and solid modeling NX
Current active DoD Secret clearance
