Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems sector is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer or Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer. This position is in our Strategic Deterrent Systems Division to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program in support of the United States Air Force. This position will be located on campus in Roy, UT.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Space System team supporting the Air Force’s Sentinel program. This will include development, production and deployment of Launch Equipment hardware and systems for each weapon system facility. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people-focused environment where he/she will interact with users, customers and other engineers.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating mechanical systems design
Evaluating mechanical systems, products, components, and applications by reviewing designs.
Ensures product quality by reviewing mechanical designs and validating that current standards are applied.
Supports the delivery of Mechanical Systems design Technical Data Packages, as-built TDPs, PDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts
Supporting structured trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues
Developing and presenting design change requests, coordinating with impacted internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring configuration control of the technical baseline.
Identifying risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors and executing handling/mitigation/capture actions to reduce risk or realize opportunities.
Developing and maturing Mechanical System designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Principal Mechanical Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 5 years’ experience; 3 years’ experience with a Master’s degree; or 0 years’ experience with a PhD.
Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 9 years’ experience; 7 years’ experience with a Master’s degree; or 4 years’ experience with a PhD.
Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
Experience performing CAD modeling with design tools such as Siemens NX or similar
Experience managing a subcontractor
Experience design, testing, and/or evaluating ordnance devices
Experience performing mechanical design efforts on MILCON, major infrastructure/building projects, or Aerospace and Defense programs.
Ability to understand and interpret requirements
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Exposure to missiles program requirements & with propulsion
Navigate through NX 3D models and CPLM
TeamCenter CPLM experience
Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical personnel
