Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Guidance, Navigation and Control Engineer to join the System Test Team. This position is located at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB), CA and supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program.
What You’ll Get To Do:
The successful candidate will support Flight and Ground Test system level testing as a Flight Test Campaign guidance and navigation installation, checkout, troubleshooting, and performance analysis Principal Engineer. Responsibilities will include:
Filtering for signal processing
Interface with Kalman Filters to refine GPS processing
Requirements analysis for development of analytical tools
Generate verification & validation reports for algorithms/tools
Telemetry mapping and requirements report drafting
Telemetry processing conversion from binary to engineering units
Flight test data analysis to include GPS signal processing and refinement, Best Estimate of Trajectory generation, and RV accuracy analysis
Weapon system accuracy assessment
Create technical reports and present technical information to peers / leadership

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Master’s Degree; 0 years with PhD
Experience with guidance and/or GPS data integration into flight tests.
Work experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, MATLAB, C++, Fortran
Work experience with GPS and communications signal processing
Experience with launch and/or countdown console operations
Active DoD Secret clearance awarded or reinvestigated within the last 6 years
Must have the ability to obtain, and maintain access to Special Access Programs (SAP) as a condition of continued employment.
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Active Top Secret Security Clearance granted or updated within last 6 years
Extensive knowledge and experience modeling, simulating, and analyzing aerospace vehicles and subsystems.
Experience in test case definition to validate requirements in nominal and stressing conditions.
Knowledge of launch vehicle and/or strategic missile guidance, navigation, and control principles from guidance system turn-on, ground operations, through launch and payload insertion
Extensive experience using Monte Carlo analysis techniques to determine vehicle performance under uncertainty
Experience in error covariance analysis methods
Experience and familiarity with high accuracy inertial measurement system modeling and analysis
Experience and knowledge in principles of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
Master’s Degree in STEM discipline
Experience working with ICBMs and in depth understanding of Vandenberg AFB Western Test Range, instrumentation, safety, and post-flight analysis.
Work experience in ICBM flight dynamics, targeting, orbital mechanics, reentry dynamics
Work experience in 6-Degrees of Freedom Simulations & Model Based System Engineering with an understanding of DoDAF and SysML
