Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking a Principal/Sr Principal Controls Engineer to support our Process Engineering team at the Promontory Utah facility.
Responsibilities Include:
Integrate equipment for robotics, PLC’s, servo drives, and instrumentation.
Program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) to control a variety of processes, machine tools, and robotics. Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming experience preferred.
Work with the Process Owner and Operation Personnel to test new/modified PLC/HMI programs prior to Implementation.
Work with the process owner to optimize the control system with process improvements.
Work with the Process Owner and Operation Personnel to test new/modified PLC/HMI programs prior to Implementation.
Develop automated recipes to error proof the system and reduce operator variability for process specific parts.
Integrate process data with Canary Historian / Thingworx / Kepware
Provide Line Stoppage Support for PLC controlled processes.
Program variable frequency drives (VFD) for all types of motor control applications.
Work with Maintenance, Operations, and other Engineers to troubleshoot.
Work as a team with the Electrical Design / Controls Engineers on upgrades / new controls systems.
Support various control systems on plant (e.g. presses, autoclaves, mixers)—involving troubleshooting, re-programming, adding software enhancements, etc. in support of Operations.
Manage upgrades to process related computers.
Implement secure network connections to manufacturing equipment.
Work closely with Facilities
Follow company software development lifecycle
Contribute to programming standards and best practice
Position Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or other closely related technical degree, plus 5+ years of experience in Controls Engineering.
Position may be filled at higher level requiring Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, or other closely related technical degree, plus 9+ years of experience in Controls Engineering.
Strong desire to work with control processes.
PLC systems and programming experience.
A desire to support and improve Manufacturing processes.

Excellent knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC platform(s)

Knowledge of Beckhoff PLC platform(s)
