Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer – Software Architect, Mission Applications to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The selected candidate will be part of the C2BMC software architecture team responsible for the Mission Applications Agile Release Train (ART) products. Responsibilities will include defining and overseeing the implementation of the software architecture for a Java-based missile defense command and control system and ensuring the architecture is consistent with the architecture design tenets of the C2BMC program. This includes providing direct technical support to the chief architect and coordinating across engineering disciplines (e.g., Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Integration & test, and sustainment).
Essential Functions:
- Perform trade studies and analysis for current and future C2BMC development activities - Maintain the software architecture artifacts for the ART
- Oversee the development of ART software design documentation
- Determine ramifications and impacts of proposed architectural changes to the software baselines
- Analyze system performance to include quantifying performance, identifying bottlenecks, and measuring throughput
- Support briefings, presentations, and demonstrations to customers.
- Support analysis, design, and implementation of cyber requirements in the software.
- Full life cycle software development experience using Java, and UML
- Previous experience with missile defense, command and control, and software architecture required.
- Architecture development and coordination- defining the relationships between internal and external components
- Communicating architectural intent and constraints to a diverse group of customers, developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of related experience with a PhD. Or 13 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
- Must possess a DoD 8570 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA)
- Recent experience in software architecture and distributed systems design and implementation.
- Experience performing trade studies and analysis across software engineering disciplines.
- Familiarity with the system engineering discipline, including Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) and Object Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/OOD)
- Hands-on application development experience with Java.
- CI/CD pipeline experience.
- Automated test development experience.
- Familiarity with Information Assurance (IA) mitigations for RMF and STIGs.
- Familiarity with Fortify/SonarQube.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance which is required to start, and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with System Oriented Architecture (SOA) or Event Driven Architecture (EDA), cloud computing, containerization, virtualization, and how to refactor existing code bases into those paradigms is a plus.
- Skills in logical/physical architecture modeling and knowledge of CI/CD pipeline architecture and implementation, Safety, and cyber security concepts are highly desirable.
- Previous experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) or Event Driven Architecture (EDA), cloud computing, micro-services, use of containerization, virtualization, and how to approach refactoring existing code bases into those paradigms is a plus.
- Skills in logical/physical architecture modeling and knowledge of CI/CD pipeline architecture and implementation, Safety, and cyber security concepts are highly desirable
