Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The selected Principal Software Engineer will serve on the Global Tracking Team and participate in the following activities: Writing, unit/integration testing, debugging, integrating, and documenting algorithm-heavy software.

Essential Functions:

Data analysis seeks a resolution to address defective/undesirable system behavior. Architecture & algorithm presentation to team / team-external audience.
Assisting with conceptualizing algorithms and rapidly prototyping implementation.

Wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in their field and provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems with imaginative and thorough solutions.
Works under general direction and results are reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
Frequent internal and external customer contacts and represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 0 years of related experience, or 9 years related experience in lieu of a degree.
Experience with Linux-based Java development.
Broad understanding of software design patterns.
Familiarity in reading and writing in UML / SysML notation.
Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI (TS/SCI) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

An Active TS Clearance is highly desired.
Experience working in Linux environments.
Matlab & Apache Maven experience.
Higher-level mathematical concepts.
Academic or professional experience with RF/IR tracking concepts.
Knowledge of Command & Control / Missile Defense domains.

Salary Range: $95,100 - $142,700

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
