Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The selected Principal Software Engineer will serve on the Global Tracking Team and participate in the following activities: Writing, unit/integration testing, debugging, integrating, and documenting algorithm-heavy software.
Essential Functions:
- Data analysis seeks a resolution to address defective/undesirable system behavior. Architecture & algorithm presentation to team / team-external audience.
- Assisting with conceptualizing algorithms and rapidly prototyping implementation.
- Wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in their field and provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems with imaginative and thorough solutions.
- Works under general direction and results are reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
- Frequent internal and external customer contacts and represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 0 years of related experience, or 9 years related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with Linux-based Java development.
- Broad understanding of software design patterns.
- Familiarity in reading and writing in UML / SysML notation.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI (TS/SCI) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An Active TS Clearance is highly desired.
- Experience working in Linux environments.
- Matlab & Apache Maven experience.
- Higher-level mathematical concepts.
- Academic or professional experience with RF/IR tracking concepts.
- Knowledge of Command & Control / Missile Defense domains.
