The Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is looking for Software Engineer or Principal Software Engineer to support our Vehicle Management System (VMS) software team. The location for this opportunity is Melbourne, Florida and will be primarily based within our office spaces to support program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule meaning you will get every Friday off. The position has NO remote or Hybrid work available.
This is a vital position supporting the program in mission critical software design and development. VMS requirements and implementing those in code, as well as updating design documentation and implementing unit-test cases. Candidate will work under only general direction, independently determines, and develops approaches to solutions supporting the program needs. Candidate will also work assigned defect reports against the product to support incremental software releases. Candidate will be able to develop software in both the desktop and computer hardware environment. Candidate will act as a liaison from time to time with frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts.
Candidate shall be willing to travel to other sites to support TIMs, integration efforts, and other software related tasking. The Candidate shall also be willing to adjust work schedule on occasion to support travel off-site to support integration and test activities.
**This position may be filled by either a Software Engineer or a Principal Software Design Engineer level based on the qualifications listed. **
Essential Functions:
Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with programs objectives
In depth understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field listed under the basic qualifications
Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
Conduct multidisciplinary research when needed and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product
Follows and ensures software standards are met.
Support the product team lead.
Basic Qualifications Software Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM Discipline (Math, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 2 years’ relevant experience; OR Master’s Degree in a STEM Discipline (Math, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 0 years’ experience.
Experience in object-oriented analysis and design
Experience developing software with languages such as C/C++ and Java (focus on C++)
Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows development
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
Ability to obtain Special Program, Access within a reasonable amount of time.
Basic Qualifications Principal Software Engineer:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM Discipline (Math, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 5 years’ relevant experience; OR Master’s Degree in a STEM Discipline (Math, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) with 3 years’ experience.
Experience in object-oriented analysis and design
Experience developing software with languages such as C/C++ and Java (focus on C++)
Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows development
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
Ability to obtain Special Program, Access within a reasonable amount of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree within a technical field with relevant experience
Able to collaborate in a team environment
Able to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems
Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours
Experience in US Government Working Groups and/or Consortiums
Preference to work in software/hardware integration and rapid prototyping
Experience with Product Support software development (Maintenance and/or Pilot Training systems)
