Become part of Northrop Grumman's Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Operating Unit (OU) Engineering Leadership team.
A Functional Manager for IDS performs the following:
- Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
- Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
- Complete functional team’s performance appraisals, provide career growth counseling, and aid in goal definition. Provide staffing recommendations, review resumes, and participate in interviews
- The candidate should have a track record as an effective collaborator, communicator, and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Drive agility and operational efficiency in System Engineering and its associated processes and tools.
- Attract, develop, advise, assess, promote, and retain highly qualified engineering workforce.
- Managing team member performance, creating and delivering performance evaluations, overseeing the salary review process, and supervising employee development and mentoring efforts (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers)
- This position is a dual role encompassing both functional management (~15%) and technical performance (~85%). Along with reporting into a program, the Section Manager is also a member of the C4MD Engineering functional management organization.
- This position is located in Redondo Beach, CA (Space Park) with travel to company and customer sites potentially required up to 10% of the time.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's of Science Degreein STEM and at least 8 years of technical experience or Masters and 6 years’ experience in System Engineering or associated engineering discipline accompanied by high proficiency in technical problem solving.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills including team building and navigation, personnel - career development, technical and inter-personal problem resolution, work planning, and allocation.
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering and/or requirements & verification
- Current, active Secret Clearance
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in System Engineering related to the development and delivery of US Army air defense command and control systems.
- Proven technical management experience preferably in either program IPT, R&D or Advanced Systems, technology, and/ or functional environments.
- Demonstrated behavior as a driver for change and continuous improvement.
- Previous Functional Management Experience.
- Ability to effectively interface with other Engineering and Production disciplines across the Sector as well as Programs, Business Development, HR, Mission Assurance, etc.
- Earned Value Management System CAM certification.
