As an integral part of our multi-discipline engineering team in Advanced Weapons, you will be on the forefront of developing next generation solutions to protect technology for our nation’s warfighter. The ideal candidate will support one of our Advanced Programs as the lead for defining and architecting a secured missile weapon system. This position will require close collaboration with team members of other projects within the organization for security architecture designs as well as external partners and customers.

What You’ll get to Do:
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking a System Safety Engineer with experience in safety engineering processes and standards to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Northridge, CA.
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's System Safety team within Specialty Engineering. Activities include system safety analysis of military weapon systems, participation in risk assessments/resolution and mishap investigations. The ideal candidate will have experience with MIL-STD-882E and familiarity with Military and their equivalent industry standards such as MIL-STD-882, RCC 319, AFSPCMAN 91-710, ASTM, ANSI, NEC, AFOSH, AOP-52, JOTP-51, PESHE and NFPA.
This is an exciting, challenging and highly specialized field which is in need of a talented, energized and innovative individual who wants to pursue further growth in System Safety Engineering.
This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Level or a Sr. Principal Level based on the qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal System Safety Engineer:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree with 5 years of relevant/related experience or a MS in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree with 3 years of relevant/related experience
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazards
- Familiarity with electrical circuit design
- Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and analyses such as PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, and Software System Safety Analyses
- Demonstrated ability to identify system safety issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issues
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
- History of demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to work independently
- Must have excellent presentation skills
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customers
- Have held a DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years)
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Systems Safety Engineer:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree with 9 years of relevant/related experience or a MS in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree with 7 years of relevant/related experience
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazards
- Familiarity with electrical circuit design
- Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and analyses such as PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, and Software System Safety Analyses
- Demonstrated ability to identify system safety issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issues
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
- History of demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to work independently
- Must have excellent presentation skills
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customers
- Have held a DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret electrical circuit schematics and FMECA data review
- Experience with implementing and testing software safety requirements
- Strong working knowledge of military system safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as MIL-STD-882, RCC 319, AFSPCMAN 91-710, ASTM, ANSI, NEC, AFOSH, AOP-52, JOTP-51, PESHE, NFPA
- Possess active DoD Security Clearance (investigation completed within last 5 years)
