We are seeking a Systems Engineering Manager 1/2 who will report to the Department Manager of the FPNT Engineering Organization. The selected individual will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Future Positioning, Navigation, and Time (FPNT) System Engineering team, which consists of mainly Principal Investigators (PI), as well as being able to directly support programs within the FPNT discipline. The successful candidate shall have the ability to perform in an environment of ambiguity and continuous change, as the vast majority of the program associated with FPNT are Technology Readiness Level-6 (TRL 6) or lower, making them early engineering and development programs.
Responsibilities including (but not limited to) the following:
- Provide leadership and direct technical support to various FPNT programs.
- Direct program support at approximately 80 percent utilization.
- Lead a section of systems engineers (~ 12 people)
- Be responsible for hiring, development, training, and retention of section talent. Hiring will include university and experienced hiring.
- Provide leadership and direction to team members and manage employee performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers)
- Responsible for day-to-day operation of the organization including employee movement and balancing of resources among programs and resolving critical/urgent program/technical issues.
- Promote the professional development of the Systems Engineering team and foster a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, value growth and continuous improvement.
- Provide clear assignments, helps employees connect their efforts to the bigger picture, creates an inclusive work environment characterized by mutual respect and the valuing of differences, and builds a culture that motivates employees to their highest levels of performance.

Basic Qualifications for a Systems Engineering Manager 1:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience, or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of experience
- Experience in at least one of the following areas: Modeling and Simulation, Systems Analysis, Mission Integration or Model Based Systems Engineering
- Experience leading an engineering team or project
- Familiarity with working in the AGILE Framework
- Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, and coordinating with cross-functional peers
- The ability to lead diverse teams and a strong leadership background
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills
- US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain security clearance
- Ability to work full-time onsite

- Experience in at least one of the following areas: Modeling and Simulation, Systems Analysis, Mission Integration or Model Based Systems Engineering
- Experience leading an engineering team or project
- Familiarity with working in the AGILE Framework
- Demonstrated skills in planning, organizing, and coordinating with cross-functional peers
- The ability to lead diverse teams and a strong leadership background
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills
- US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain security clearance
- Ability to work full-time onsite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science or PhD in engineering, computer science, physics or other relevant fields.
- Experience leading projects in an R&D Aerospace or DoD environment, interfacing with customers to communicate technical capabilities relevant to customer needs.
- Knowledge of direct experience in working with Navigation Systems, PNT and FPNT framework and technologies
- Being comfortable work with ambiguous specifications and requirements
- Proven leadership skills
- Prior Functional Management Experience
- Engineering Management Experience
- Ability and desire to provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to direct reports
- Experience working in a matrix organization is a plus
- Active DoD Secret clearance
