Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Systems Safety Engineer (23-399) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
System Safety engineering and development of program safety plans to provide the engineering team with the application of safety policies and guidelines. The individual will support MDA and other program personnel as required and other system engineering tasks as required. The successful candidate will interface with team members and National Team management to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within available resources. Responsibilities include the integration of the product lines. Generation of responsible sections of the capability specifications, training less experienced personnel in SE and Safety techniques, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts on an as-required basis.
Essential Functions:
- Candidate should possess a System Engineering background specializing in System and Software Safety.
- Experience analyzing design to ensure safety requirements are met.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to analyze and recommend design features that meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards.
- Experience developing safety documents to support customer and test requirements. (SAR, SRA, SSPP)
- Experience with hazard identification.
- Experience participating in System Safety Working Groups.
- Must possess knowledge of MIL-STD-882E.
- System engineering and software systems engineering experience is required in developing new and integrating existing systems.
- Ability to analyze high-level needs and, through a structured and logical approach, refine the need into an integrated set of hardware and software.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
- Some travel is required.
Basic Qualifications:
Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
- An active Secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain TS clearance.
- 5 years with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 9 years experience in lieu of a degree.
- Wide application of principles, theories, and concepts in their field provides solutions to various complex problems with imaginative and thorough solutions.
- Works under general direction, and results are reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
- Failure to achieve results typically results in severe program delays and considerable expenditure of resources
- Frequent internal and external customer contacts and represents the organization in providing solutions to complex technical issues associated with specific projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active TS Clearance
