Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position is on-site in Melbourne, Florida.
We are looking for a motivated Staff Systems Engineer to join our Research and Advanced Design (RAD) / Battlespace Architecture Science & Technology (BAST) team focused on integrating commercial technologies and enhancing them to address operational military use cases. These technologies include 5G/NextG communications, machine learning, cybersecurity, and future wireless technologies.
The ideal candidate will have MBSE experience working with military wireless communication systems, as well as experience integrating and testing hardware/software solutions from a box level, down to the microelectronics level. The role will involve working with commercial partners to integrate the latest 5G capabilities and designing a platform to support advanced battle management technologies.
As the project’s SE lead, you will be responsible for the technical direction, execution, and oversight of the system engineering team. You must also ensure the team adhere to sound engineering processes, in accordance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards. Additional duties include the following:
• Supervise and mentor of the SE team.
• Maintain awareness over SE activities within and across contracts for requirements development, hardware/software design, integration, and verification/validation activities.
• Provide technical status and assessment to leadership and customers.
• Support assessment of cost and schedule impacts of technical decisions.
• Ensure the program is adhering to SE processes and best practices of products for both internal and external customers and is compliant with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
• As needed, coordinate with the technical lead to ensure execution of program statement of work and technical program requirements are met.
• Drive process development, continuous improvement, and affordability initiatives.
• Coordinate with the chair of the Technical Review Board regarding upcoming and current change packages.
• Facilitate technical support, review, and approval of SE products and artifacts.
• Support program reviews and assist in resolution of program engineering challenges (technical, financial, and staffing).
• Coordinating across programs and functions for common efficiencies and operational gains.
• Comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions.
This position is contingent on Program Award and having an in-scope DoD Secret Clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 14 years of experience in engineering; OR a Master of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 12 years of experience in engineering; OR 9 years of experience PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance prior to start.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to start.
• Experience applying SysML methodologies to IRAD/CRAD programs.
• Experience using Cameo/MagicDraw and DOORS.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience leading a system engineering team consisting of early to mid-career personnel.
• Experience with Agile Methodologies.
• Experience with 3GPP specifications and services.
• Experience demonstrating complex technical concepts to management, customers, and stakeholders who lack a strong technical background.
• An active DoD Secret with an investigation within 5 years.
