Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Sr. Principal Electro-Optical / Infrared (EO/IR) Principal Systems Engineer at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.  The selected candidate will report to the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) Targeting Department.  The SEIT Targeting Department supports various Targeting Operating Unit EO/IR programs including LITENING and IRST. 

The EO/IR Systems Engineer applies core principles of systems engineering in order to deliver innovative, affordable, highly reliable systems solutions that meet customer needs, key performance parameters, and program execution goals.

Responsibilities may include proposal development (technical writing, cost estimation), requirements development, requirements decomposition and derivation, physical and functional system design definition (use case diagrams, block diagrams, activity diagrams, etc.), hardware and software design definition, system integration, verification, qualification, and validation activities, or production / sustainment program engineering support.

Qualifications for Sr Principal Systems Engineer:

Basic Qualifications: 

  • BS degree in engineering with a minimum of 9 years’ related experience in an engineering environment or Masters degree in engineering or STEM with a minimum of 7 years of related experience

  • Systems Engineering experience across the entire lifecycle of product development experience including proposals, concept design, detailed design, integration, verification, qualification and validation

  • Systems Engineering for Military Aircraft Systems or Subsystems (Knowledge of platform mission scenarios, Airworthiness requirements, etc.

  • Systems Engineering for EO/IR Targeting Systems, EO/IR products, or Datalink Systems and products

  • Systems Engineering experience for DOD contracts

  • Experience working on systems development projects that encompass both hardware and software

  • This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in all aspects of the Systems Engineering process including proposal development, system design, system integration, system verification (e.g. system’s integration laboratory testing), system qualification (e.g. environmental / airworthiness qualification testing) and system validation (e.g. end-user platform testing), and production / sustainment support

  • Experience working on systems development projects within the defense industry that encompass both hardware and software

  • Experience working on EO/IR, laser, or related complex electronic systems development projects

  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

Salary Range: $99,800 - $149,800
Salary Range 2: $123,800 - $185,800
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
