The Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test & Logistics (SEIT&L) Department at Northrop Grumman Oceanic is seeking a System Safety Engineer.
This position is based out of Annapolis, MD. Distributed work opportunities at other Northrop Grumman campuses may be considered. In this position you will support complex, dynamic, maritime programs of national strategic importance. This opportunity will allow you to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art oceanic systems, providing exposure to a wide range of advanced technologies, including autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), acoustic and non-acoustic sensors, sensor processing, navigation, platform integration, subsea and maritime surface communication technologies, advanced algorithms, and more.
In this position you will perform functions such as the following:
- Develop and implement Product or System Safety Plans
- Develop and implement Certification Program Plan
- Conduct hazard analyses, identify mitigations
- Identify and help manage Critical Safety Items/Processes (CSIs/CSPs)
- Perform system safety audits
- Develop requirements, make design recommendations, and review designs and procedures for safe operation and compliance
- Provide safety observation services during integration and test activities
- Present to internal and external customers on safety-related topics at program milestones
Though not required, experience with Navy customers and underwater/naval systems such as torpedoes, towed vehicles, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), SONAR/sensor systems, underwater mechanical structures and cabling, submarine payloads, etc. is desired. Experience in anti-submarine warfare, seabed warfare, and Navy tactics would also be desirable. Multiple positions are available; assignments will be made based on the candidate’s qualifications.

Basic Qualifications for Principal:
Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience; Masters in related STEM degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience; PhD in related STEM degree with 0 years experience.
Ability to perform safety engineering activities including report generation.
Experience generating data products compliant with MIL-STD-881 or other governing standard
Experience working in a team environment to include gathering inputs from others to inform safety assessments predictions.
Active or current U.S. Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret / SCI with CI polygraph
U.S. citizenship required

Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM degree with a minimum of 9 years relevant experience; Masters in related STEM degree with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience; PhD in related STEM degree with 4 years experience.
Ability to perform safety engineering activities including report generation.
Experience generating data products compliant with MIL-STD-881 or other governing standard
Experience working in a team environment to include gathering inputs from others to inform safety assessments predictions.
Active or current U.S. Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret / SCI with CI polygraph
U.S. citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications:
Have a keen interest in working in the maritime surface / undersea domain
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Have experience in the design, production, or maintenance of mechanical, electrical, or optical systems.
Have experience in the Navy, Maritime, or subsea domain.
Hold a current Top Secret/SCI and CI Polygraph.
Have experience with the application of safety engineering in model-based design and the generation of associated digital design products
