Roles & Responsibilities:
Systems Engineers are responsible to work with the Chief Engineers and Program Leadership to support key program objectives through the development and management of architecture, requirements, verification planning and change integration for our solid rocket motor and booster motor systems. Systems Engineers actively participate in the development of new systems and system upgrades by managing architecture, requirements, verification, and integrated change control processes in a disciplined, broad reaching process, to ensure our propulsion systems projects perform to specification, satisfy customer needs, and maintain configuration integrity throughout the lifecycle of each product. Systems Engineering at Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems are primarily model based and provide support to multiple defense and commercial contracts.
Within Propulsion Systems, systems engineering provides a gateway to many other leadership opportunities within Propulsion Systems. Roles may include aspects of project engineering, proposal support, and liaison engineering roles which naturally build essential skills necessary for future leadership opportunities.
Job Duties:
The primary responsibility of the systems engineer in this position is to provide leadership in model-based digital capture of architecture and requirements while retrieving compliance data from various sources into the systems engineering model for a defense program.
Coordinate with customers to understand intent and needs of the integrated system
Evaluate and manage customer requirements and flow down in specifications and determine implementation approach
Analyze the needs of the system and translate into verifiable performance and design requirements
Determine and manage verification methodology and approach for each requirement as it applies to relevant subsystems
Evaluate results of verification processes (inspection, analysis, test, and demonstration) and provide compliance evidence against system requirements to stakeholders
Integrate customer directed changes into the system and facilitate implementation of changes within a change management system
Coordinate and communicate with all stakeholders, including customers, all things related to requirements, implementation of requirements and verification, and resolution of problems and issues
Develop model architecture for model-based integration of requirements, design, analysis, and verification
Capture digital thread information to show top to bottom traceability of requirements/compliance information.
Skills & Qualifications:
Understanding of requirements and basic principles of verification strategies
Experience and familiarity with model-based systems engineering tools, specifically object oriented tools like NoMagic Cameo or similar
Experience with architecture diagrams (structural diagrams for physical, functional, and logical relationships), behavior diagrams (activity, use case, etc.), and other MBSE diagrams useful to understand product needs
Experience with interface management between system elements and teams
Experience with concept of operations (ConOps) and product related strategy maps
Experience with digital thread methodology
Experience with manufacturing and quality control databases and processes
Ability and skills to work multidisciplined engineering problems

Exposure to and familiarity with MBSE approaches and tools (Cameo, Doors, etc.) and some exposure to MBSE languages (SysML or UML) are required
Familiarity with Model Based Engineering and integration of descriptive and analytical models
Familiarity with the general requirement sets and system architectural approach necessary for development of a spaceflight system
General familiarity with structural, mechanical, thermal dynamics, fluid dynamics, electro-mechanical and propulsion technologies

Assembling plans and detailed schedules to accomplish an engineering effort
Experience with product testing, preferably system level tests demonstrating interaction between subsystems or major elements
Participation in developing formal interfaces between parts of a system
Participation in proposal efforts
Experience and understanding of the relationships between engineering designs and resulting manufactured products
Experience directing or leading small teams
Experience collaborating efforts across multiple teams
Experience with digital thread methodology
Experience in at least two different design and/or analysis engineering roles related to propulsion product development and sustainment
Experience with manufacturing and quality control databases and processes
