Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer for the Palmdale, California manufacturing and integration site and associated sites in the Antelope Valley. This position will be part of the Environmental, Safety, Health and Medical (ESHM) team and will focus on leading site fire prevention and compliance programs. The Principal Fire Protection Engineer will develop and implement fire protection programs and procedures aimed at reducing risk of personnel injury and/or property damage due to fire and explosion. This will require close coordination with several internal organizations including facilities, programs, functional support groups and risk and insurance departments as well as external agency and government fire protection organizations.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
Reviewing and approving design reviews for new buildings and manufacturing processes.
Final inspection and approval of new/retrofit installations including fire alarms, hydro tests, foam system tests, and emergency lights.
Providing oversight to facilities groups and auditing performance of fire suppression and alarm system inspection and maintenance programs.
Facilitating insurance, USAF and internal audits and inspections of fire prevention programs and systems.
Facilitating investigations of fire related incidents including Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) assessments.
Developing and updating fire related pre-fire plans and master plans.
Developing and providing subject matter expertise on training for fire and life safety systems.
Hazardous material review and usage approval.
Oversee site explosives management program.
Reviewing and approving fire and life safety systems impairment requests and utility outage requests.
Supporting other environmental, safety and health programs as needed.
Participates in fire fighter and first aid/CPR training.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of fire prevention program management or related experience or Master’s Degree in a related field and 3 years of experience.
Knowledge of fire prevention codes such as NFPA, IFC and California Fire Code.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to solve complex problems by actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources.
Consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications:
NFPA Certified Fire Protection Specialist
Previous DoD, military or aerospace facilities experience.
Knowledge of government codes such as Unified Facilities Criteria and DCMA 8210.
AutoCAD system use.
Fire investigations.
