Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Staff Sentinel Range Safety Engineer. This position is located in VSFB, CA and supports the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
What You’ll Get To Do:
- Will provide the knowledge and technical skills to support Sentinel’s Range Safety Certification program in all aspects of flight and range safety analysis and data production.
- Will utilize skills and experience to verify missile trajectory data to perform quantitative safety and risk analyses of flight test designs to ensure ballistic missile flight tests can be conducted safely on the western test range.
- Have strong oral and written communications skills and be comfortable communicating to the customer and senior management as well as be self-motivated, with the ability to make proper, timely decisions and recommendations.
- Develop range safety data products for use by national test ranges in their independent safety assessments of flight tests.
- Assist in developing algorithms and models to facilitate safety assessments that meet standard risk parameters defined in Range Commanders Council (RCC) documentation.
- Schedule, participate in, and present analysis at working group meetings, peer reviews and other technical meetings.
- AFSPCMAN 91-710 tailoring; establishing design, test, and analysis baselines.
- Ensure systems and equipment comply with MIL STD 882E, AFMAN91-201, AFMAN 91-710, DoD 4145.26M, and DESR 6055.09 to process planning and operations, as well as other safety regulations pertaining to ESOH/Range/Explosive safety.
- Insight and vision to accurately identify, mitigate and clearly communicate hazards on support equipment, and operational procedures that could result in delays in range safety approval (i.e., resulting in schedule slip of First Flight).
- Customer technical interface/liaison for all range safety activities with SLD30 – regular interface and relationship cultivation with SLD30 Chief Engineer as required.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Job Qualifications:
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree discipline with 12+ years of Engineering / Range Safety / Systems Safety experience OR Master's degree discipline with 10+ years of Engineering / Range Safety / Systems Safety experience OR PhD discipline with 8+ years of Engineering / Range Safety / Systems Safety experience. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered ‘in lieu’ of a degree
- Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Top Secret security clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
- Experience with AFSPCMAN 91-710 (Tailoring Requirements, Providing Formal Verification)
- Experience with MIL-STD-882E (Hazard Analysis Reports)
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Planning and Executing integrated Launch Countdown Procedures
- Mission Execution Training – Nominal, Off-nominal, and Contingency Operations for Console Operators
- Support Flight Readiness Review with external agencies such FAA / Space Launch Delta
- Missile Integration and Certification to obtain an Operational Approval Letter from Agencies such as FAA, Space Force / Air Force
- Experience with test operations for Live Missile Fire / Launch activities at a Major Range and Test Facility Base
- Conducting and Execution of Flight Operations at a Major Range and Test Facility Base
- Weapon System Experience (Minuteman III or similar military or industry experience).
- System Engineering background with System Safety experience
- Ability to apply extensive technical expertise in System Safety and has full knowledge of other related disciplines
- Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and clearly present technical approaches and findings
- Ability to develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
- Ability to work independently, without appreciable direction
- Ability to guide the successful completion of major programs
