The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) seeks to fill a Space Principal Engineer DevOp/Space Sr. Principal Engineer DevOp in the Payload and Ground Systems Division Engineering organization supporting Integrated National Systems (INS) Business Unit (BU). This position will be located in Fairfax, VA or Linthicum, MD.

This individual will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills that achieve sustainable, top performance. They will have a proven, track record as an effective communicator and problem-solver who is able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external shareholders. In addition, they will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and will have the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. This candidate will demonstrate broad abilities that are balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. There will be opportunity to operate in a team environment and to collaborate across division business areas, as required, in order to accomplish team goals.

Overview:

Plans and evolves processes and infrastructure to execute programs which support rapid maturation and deployment of capability while sustaining a stable security posture and incorporating ongoing stakeholder feedback. Integrates development pipelines leveraging automation with test-driven development tools and continuous integration/test frameworks. Implements provisioning and deployment techniques via packaging, componentizing, or Cloud distribution. Functions with agile principles to execute efficiently in an environment of continuous feedback. Ensures implementation of Software Configuration Management (SCM), code quality, and code coverage with automated testing for Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

This position can be filled as a Level 3 or a Level 4 based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for Principal (Level 3):

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5+years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 3+ years, or PhD with 0+ years; 9+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree requirement.
  • Active TS/SCI or TS with SCI eligibility, and willingness to sit for a poly security clearance
  • Experience with JIRA
  • Experience in gathering requirements, leading exercises or demonstrations.
  • Develop new procedures as required. 
  • Interface with program and customer personnel. 
  • Hands on experience developing and performing real-time executable mission plans.
  • Knowledge in containerization for rapid deployment and integration of defects/features; i.e., Docker, Kubernetes
  • Adept in workloads with high-performance requirements and developing efficiencies, i.e., digital transformation
  • Knowledge of Virtualized Environments, including: architecture, creation, deployment, and management of VMs 
  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 9+years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree with 7+ years, or PhD with 4+ years; 13+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree requirement.
  • Active TS/SCI or TS with SCI eligibility, and willingness to sit for a poly security clearance
  • Experience with JIRA
  • Experience in gathering requirements, leading exercises or demonstrations.
  • Develop new procedures as required. 
  • Interface with program and customer personnel. 
  • Hands on experience developing and performing real-time executable mission plans.
  • Knowledge in containerization for rapid deployment and integration of defects/features; i.e., Docker, Kubernetes
  • Adept in workloads with high-performance requirements and developing efficiencies, i.e., digital transformation
  • Knowledge of Virtualized Environments, including: architecture, creation, deployment, and management of VMs

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Active TS/SCI with poly
  • Experience in working with multiple subcontractors
  • Execution lead of exercises and demonstrations
  • Detailed familiarity with space system operational documentation.
  • Mentor newer members of the operations team.

Salary Range: $96,900 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $120,000 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
