Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is seeking a Systems Engineer/Principal Systems Engineer for activities associated with the FP&A Operating Unit.  The selected candidate will perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. They will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. This position will be Full Time Telecommuting.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Translate end-user concept of operations into workflows & backlog. Understand the concept of operations to derive business requirements and define steps that need to be taken to achieve those requirements. Builds the framework defining an environment for development. Monitors and contributes to the completion of tasks and awareness of task workflow

  • Work with end users and stakeholders to understand current concept of operations, business processes, and challenges

  • Become fluent in end-user vernacular and domain

  • Document workflows and computations

  • Mockup screen designs for analytics dashboards

  • Work with corporate IT asset owners outside of own organization to understand information security and IT challenges involved in obtaining data and creating software interfaces between IT systems

  • Work with stakeholders to create backlog of capabilities and features with clear acceptance criteria. Translate concept of operations and processes into requirements for software engineers and data scientists

  • Create test procedures verifying and validating system

  • Execute tests and help facilitate the information security policy and other policies to ensure data can be obtained and properly secured/stored

This position may be filled as a Systems Engineer or as a Principal Systems Engineer per the requirements below:

Basic Qualifications Systems Engineer:

  • Must have 2 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree in science or related degree or a Master's degree and 0 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to communicate well with stakeholders and customers up to the executive level

  • Experience translating end-user concept of operations into requirements and workflows

  • Familiar with enterprise software systems architecture

  • Experience managing a project team using Agile sprints

  • Defining acceptance criteria for task completion

  • Experience with performing system and end-user tests (writing procedures and executing them)

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment

Basic Qualifications Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Must have 5 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree in Science or a Master's degree and 3 years of relevant experience; Or 0 years of experience with PHD.

  • Ability to communicate well with stakeholders and customers up to the executive level

  • Experience translating end-user concept of operations into requirements and workflows

  • Familiar with enterprise software systems architecture

  • Experience managing a project team using Agile sprints

  • Defining acceptance criteria for task completion

  • Experience with performing system and end-user tests (writing procedures and executing them)

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with creating derived requirements.

  • Experience with using JIRA.

  • Experience with business intelligence solutions hosted on Azure or AWS.

  • Experience with Visio and/or EA Sparx

  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.

  • Background/experience in financial industry.

  • Experience with predictive modelling.


Salary Range: $74,900 USD - $112,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
