Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal for Strategic Planning in the Strategy & Analysis Group, a part of the sector’s Strategy & Business Development organization focused on supporting priority programs. This position will be located in Falls Church, VA.

The person in this position will lead customer and competitive environment monitoring and program and market assessment activities for the Aeronautics Strategy & Analysis Group, as well as lead and contribute to team projects that develop and refine program growth and advocacy strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor and assess customer (US Department of Defense, Air Force, and Navy) and competitor posture, statements, actions, and budgets
  • Monitor media, trade press, third party (e.g., “think tank”) publications, talks, and conferences to glean insights into customer and competitor thinking and activities
  • Identify, source, analyze data and information from disparate resources and identify trends, draw conclusions, and determine connections to inform business decisions and messaging
  • Provide customer analysis, market and technology trends, and maintaining awareness of emergent opportunities and threats
  • Provide regular market updates and insights for SAG and company leadership, and develop strategic scenarios and recommendations
  • Deliver quick turn analytic support to SAG and company leadership NGC executives on military, modernization, customer, competitor, strategy, and market issues
  • Derive and effectively communicate useful and actionable insight from deep-dive programmatic research and analysis

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations. This candidate must be comfortable working closely with executive leadership, program managers, government affairs, and other functional strategy teams. 

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years applicable experience or Master’s degree and 8+ years applicable experience
  • Understanding of military aviation, the Aerospace and Defense industry, customers, and competitors
  • Ability to obtain and maintain US Security Clearance

 
Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Graduate degree in business, economics, public policy, security studies, or related field
  • 5 years of experience in Aerospace & Defense strategy, consulting, equity coverage, or trade journalism
  • Strong analysis, writing, and presentation skills
  • 5 years of experience in DoD acquisition analysis
  • 5 years of experience in market/competitor analysis (Military Aviation, domestic)
  • In-depth knowledge of military aviation, the Aerospace and Defense industry, customers, and competitors (portfolio, business models, structure, and programs)
  • Understanding of DC defense policy issues, defense budgets, Congressional defense authorization and appropriations, defense think tanks and thought leaders
  • Excellent written communication ability
  • Quantitative analytic skills
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
